HIGH TIDE 🌊

One of the most thoughtful pieces I’ve been part of with an extraordinary cast.

Drawn from Igbo Landing, 1803.

A group of Igbo captives took control of their ship off the Georgia coast, grounded it, and walked into the water rather than be enslaved.

“Cause death was better than bondage.”

Thought provoking and beautifully written.

The best of times with some great people.

3/3 of The ANS Sunset Screening was surreal. Buzzing with the energy of film lovers, creative thinkers, and vibrant members of our community. We would never have been able to pull this off without the people standing behind us. What began as a small idea at the beginning of our first year of events has grown into something truly powerfull.

Altogether, we have highlighted 16 filmmakers across 3 screenings this year and it wouldn’t have been possible without collaboration and community.

And this is only the beginning. We’re just getting started in our mission to amplify Black and African creative journeys. We cannot wait to do more.

A BIG thank you to Rich Mix and The New Black Film Collective for supporting us and understanding our vision as young creatives working to reshape the narrative of who we are — especially through film this year

A massive shoutout to this edition’s incredible line-up of talent:
@envarka @anthonynti @rahhh.shida @jay.nwa @shotby.drey @tobikyere @itsakanele

The new year is approaching, and as always, we’re building.

More conversations, more creative moments ahead.

Remember, stay close. 💛

⭐️THE ANS SUNSET FINAL EDITION
LINE UP -

‘Him & I’ by Jason C. Nwachukwu - Set a week after a difficult confrontation, a mother and son sit with the aftermath of their conversation, questioning what their relationship truly means. With a delicate, intimate approach to family and identity, the film captures the beauty and tension found in everyday moments between loved ones.

‘Can a Brother Get Some Peace?’ by Audrey Damier - A cinematic exploration of Black boyhood and manhood, this short reimagines young Black men not as threats but as vulnerable individuals navigating trauma, resilience, and friendship. Through quiet moments and layered dialogue, the film reflects on the emotional weight many carry while seeking peace in a world shaped by systemic pressures.
This marks Damier’s directorial debut — a powerful collaboration with Yvonne Shelling and the launch of their collective, Stolen Greatness.

Catch both films at Rich Mix Cinema, London on Saturday 29th November as part of our final ANS Sunset Screening of the year.

🔉 🚨 Sound the klaxons! Yes, the insufferable grin is absolutely necessary to show just how thrilled I am to have been selected for the @DirectorsUK inspire mentorship scheme — A programme created to support directors as they advance to the next stage of their careers.
I’ll be under the brilliant guidance of my mentor, the ridiculously talented @tom.kingsley (of Stath Lets Flats and This Is Going to Hurt fame). He has sworn to make me excellent, and I pledge to do better and maybe even win at films.
It might finally be time to make that short film I’ve been sweeping under the carpet, and finish that TV series idea.
Seriously, a massive thank you to Directors UK for such an exciting opportunity. And congratulations to the rest of the cohort — I can’t wait to get to know you all.”
