A quick trip to Florida to celebrate my grandma’s birthday!

Twenty years ago, she was beginning her fight against breast cancer.

Today, she’s thriving in her 90s and still making her famous mandel bread.

What a gift.

Sometimes you build a place and sometimes a place builds you. Both can be said of this place. My home for over a decade. When I moved in I didn’t know the first thing about drilling into different types of walls, fixing plumbing, changing locks, trash sorting, rewiring chandeliers and many more home improvement fixes that I was taught by the flatiron over the years. I saw life changes, 10 roommates (some now forever friends)come and go, a pandemic, 2 apartment floods, multiple epic parties and so many summer sunsets from the roof. I started a business here and watched it grow. Met so many interesting people from all over the world that visited my “by appointment” shop which was one of the very first of its kind in NYC. I built a home and work space that I truly loved but really, it build me. It’s been one week since I left her, the true queen of Astoria blvd, and I’m definitely a bit homesick for my flatiron but I’ll always hold dear to the lessons she taught me over the years and will always be thankful to her for the life she is giving me in exchange for letting her go. I hope she finds a new caretaker to appreciate her and give her the repairs she needs to stand for another 136 years. #astoriaqueens #astoriaflatiron
