Join us tonight for Septic Séance!

We’re so excited to gather once more at Jay Critchley’s historic Theater in the Ground at Septic Space for an evening of projection, electronic sound, performance, and collective ritual.

It’s a special evening for us as we celebrate our final event with Jay this season. His extraordinary artistic vision and decades of experimentation in Provincetown continue to inspire us, and we’re deeply grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with him and his work over the past several years.

Thank you so much, Jay, for your generosity, imagination, and for creating a space where artistic exploration and community can come together in such unexpected ways. We can’t wait to share tonight with everyone!

The final video in this reel also documents another collaboration close to our hearts: Submerged Root Systems, an installation we created as Innerworkings with the wonderful Karen Cappotto (@karencappotto) and Pablo M. Flores (@pablo.m.flores) at RSVPtown Gallery (@rsvptown) in Provincetown.

Bringing moving images and handmade lace into dialogue with their work, the installation explored ecology, labor, and the often-invisible networks that connect us.

We’re so grateful to Karen, Pablo, and RSVPtown for this beautiful opportunity to work together.

Looking forward to seeing you tonight!

With love,

Tomorrow night, we return to the underground.

We’ve been preparing for Septic Séance: Part Two, and we can’t wait to share this space with you.

What happens to the energy we reclaim when we let go? What do we want to nourish, cultivate, and bring into being?

Through projection, electronic sound, performance, and collective ritual, we’ll gather around Jay Critchley’s @jaycritchley historic Theater in the Ground at Septic Space to explore desire, renewal, and the possibilities we create together.

Whether you joined us last week or are coming for the first time, we’d love to have you there. Part Two is a new experience, and everyone is welcome.

This Thursday, we return to the underground.

Septic Séance: Part Two — What We Make of It

Last week, we gathered around Jay Critchley’s historic Theater in the Ground at Septic Space to consider what we were ready to release, offering our intentions to the underground for transformation.

But release is only the beginning.

What happens to the energy we reclaim when we let go? Where do we direct it? What becomes possible when we give our attention to what truly nourishes us?

This Thursday, we return to explore desire, personal power, reciprocity, and the futures we are becoming capable of creating together.

Through projection, electronic sound, guided reflection, movement, and collective ritual, we’ll turn our attention toward what we want to cultivate, individually and together.

Whether you joined us for Part One or are encountering Septic Séance for the first time, you are warmly invited. This is a new chapter, and everyone has a place in it.

This town is full of so many beautiful surprises and treasures and tonight I was fortunate to participate in one, Septic Séance, presented by @innerworkings.projects with @jaycritchley. It was a very inspirational and transformative event held in Jay's Septic Space, with beautiful visuals and music paired with the surrounding sounds of nature - and it was so much more than that. I went in not really knowing what to expect and and very happy I took the leap and went. It is happening again next Thursday the 15th.

Tomorrow, we gather for Septic Séance.

We’ve been spending time with mushrooms — with decomposition, underground networks, and the quiet intelligence of things becoming something else.

This time of year asks something similar of us.

What are we carrying that is ready to change form? What feelings, fears, griefs, desires, and old energies can be metabolized rather than simply carried forward?

Tomorrow night, we’ll gather around Jay Critchley’s @jaycritchley Theater in the Ground at Septic Space for a performance and collective ritual of release, transmutation, and renewal.

Not to erase what has been difficult, but to work with it. To let what is finished decompose. To make space for joy, resilience, connection, and whatever wants to grow next.

We’ll move through projection, sound, performance, and ritual together — drawing on the earth beneath us and the strange possibility of this underground portal to imagine ourselves renewed and ready to meet the world again.

Come as you are. Bring what you’ve been carrying.

Let’s see what we can make of it together.

This week, Septic Séance begins.

a glimpse into what we’ve been working with.

Mushrooms, decay, going deep underground, and the processes through which matter is metabolized and becomes something else.

This Thursday, we’ll gather at Jay Critchley’s @jaycritchley P-Town, Inc. around Theater in the Ground at Septic Space, using Ptown Inc. as a place to view projected vid of the live ritual happening on site in the abandoned septic system as both container and portal for a collective ritual of release and transformation.

What are we ready to let go of? What might we make possible in its place?

Through projection, sound, performance, and participation, we’ll work together to transmute what no longer serves us and imagine what we want to carry forward — individually and as a community.

We’ve also been making something for you to carry away.

Everyone contributing $20 or more will leave with a limited two-layer Risograph fortune teller, designed and printed by Innerworkings using imagery from the performance. A small oracle and an extension of the ritual itself.

We’re excited to bring you into this.

This October, we’re excited to share Septic Séance, a two-part performance and participatory ritual by Innerworkings in collaboration with artist Jay Critchley @jaycritchley at Jay Critchley’s P-Town, Inc. in Provincetown.

Thursday, October 8 · 7–9pm
Thursday, October 15 · 7–9pm

Septic Séance draws upon the long-standing traditions of experimental performance, ritual, gathering, and transformation in Provincetown and the Outer Cape, and the extraordinary history of Jay Critchley’s work within that landscape.

Across two evenings, we’ll gather around Theater in the Ground at Septic Space for a live ritual of release, shedding, resilience, and collective imagination. Through projection, sound, performance, and participation, we’ll consider what we carry forward, what we leave behind, and what might take new form.

At the center is the Transmutation Hole: part portal, part oracle, part speculative laboratory.

For the performance, we’ve created a limited edition of hand-designed, Risograph-printed paper fortune tellers using imagery from the work. These small participatory oracles will be available for purchase and included with contributions of $20 or more.

We’re grateful to Jay for welcoming us into this living tradition of Provincetown performance — an opportunity not simply to preserve its history, but to activate it together and carry it forward.

Join us for part one + part two.

Tickets are available through the QR code on our flyers or through the link in bio.

Arts Recap 🎨

A brilliant celebration of creativity throughout Cahersiveen! ✨

A huge thank you to Ciarraí Art Nexus for organising such a fantastic programme of arts events as part of the Cahersiveen Music & Arts Festival, and to our sponsors Sive Minerals and Willie’s Wild Atlantic Way Wines & Whiskey for their generous support.

From live chainsaw carving and artist talks to painting, Art in the Windows and beautiful works displayed along the railings of the Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church, there was art to discover around every corner.

A wonderful part of the festival programme, bringing colour, creativity and life to the town.

Thank you to all the artists, businesses, organisers and everyone who stopped to watch, chat and enjoy the art!

The Story of Art In America arrived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and we couldn’t be happier to be here.

We spent our first day with Jay Critchley, an amazing and truly one-of-a-kind artist, touring his theme park P-town, Inc. It’s hard to put into words what a visual experience it was, Provincetown’s creative spirit on full, unforgettable display right from day one.
