this jacket💙🌽💛🌾✨🙌

Without this jacket, I would have always won.

I’m grateful for the jacket that taught me how to lose.

If I had never zipped up this jacket, life would have been easy. But with this jacket, things were hard. Without it, I would have never challenged myself or experienced the losses that grew my character.

I had plenty of wins in this jacket, too, and I’m grateful for my parents, advisors, and teammates who helped me get there. But the losses are so much more important.

I poured my heart into things that didn’t go my way, and that sucked. I watched my friends go through the same. This jacket has soaked up many tears throughout the years.

But life would have been too easy without it.

Because the purpose of this jacket was never just to teach me how to win. It was to teach me who I could become when I didn’t.

It taught me that I could give something everything I had and still walk away without the outcome I wanted. That I could watch someone else succeed when I had hoped to be the one standing there. That disappointment didn’t mean I had failed, and losing didn’t mean the work was wasted.

Some of the most important things this jacket ever gave me were things I never wanted to learn.

So thank you to the agricultural industry, to the organization that helped me grow into the person I am today, to the people who supported me through the wins and the losses, and to the jacket that taught me how to lose.

Because without this jacket, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to lose.

And I wouldn’t be who I am today.
