My nine albums that made me…
There’s a theme here. If you figure it out tell me because I’m still trying to figure it out myself. Just great songs, lyrics, singers, bands, and sounds. Across many years of my life. Roots rock for thinking people…

I definitely could have added more in my top ones, including more from these same artists. Here’s the link if you want to do one. Don’t overthink it. https://www.my9albums.com/

The great band Sun Volt and it’s highly underrated front man Jay Farrar have a new record out and it is really good

Son Volt never disappoints me. I love Jay Farrar‘s no-nonsense sincerity, minimal banter, earnest, often dark, midwestern-centric writing and a dependably deafening straight-ahead musical assault that ranges from beauty to legitimate rage. It’s always passionate, intense and cathartic. Ten Second News remains one of my favorite and most devastating live songs. It kills me every. Single. Time. (Not posted here) He’s never forgotten the righteous anger of punk that grounded alt-Country and he knows how to face the nihilistic despair that comes from having eyes open wide. Cheers for Jay! As ever, no notes. 🖤

A song from the new LP he didn’t play that I’ve really attached to is about how hard it is to hope for more than seems possible. I recommend Don Quixote’s Dream.

I chose videos of 3 new songs: a single (Coalfield Wars—a vintage-style-Jay-history-of-labor-injustice song) and 2 gems (Kaleidosphere and Serenade Song) from the new LP, which I love. Disclaimer: sitting at the stage end, I was facing Mark‘s steel, guitar, and —especially loud—keyboard amps — they dominate the sound so you don’t hear the mix that the room heard.

The set list was very nice. Set list in photos- thanks Brian for snapping that!
