Before the training, before the installations, and before the follow-ups, there’s the quiet work of getting everything where it needs to be. One truck at a time.

These are the conditions many families live in every day. We were there to help and make life a little easier, even if only for a short time.It was long days, steep roads, and countless steps, but every moment was definitely worth it. We installed water filters, built stoves, and served children and families in need. One of the older kids told us, “When you come, it feels like we get to leave our hometown for a little while.” That alone made everything worth it. This work truly takes strong hands and a kind heart. ❤️

What started with an email and 50 water filters has grown into something we never could have imagined.

During this trip to Comalapa, Guatemala, we distributed more than 200 water filters to over 200 families, helping bring access to clean drinking water to roughly 1,000 people.

But the filters are only part of the story.

What made this project meaningful was the people behind it. Volunteers, community leaders, students, and partners came together around a shared goal and turned a simple idea into something much bigger. Through our partnership with @lwhome_org, we also helped establish 28 student Ambassadors who will continue supporting families, conducting follow-up surveys, and helping us stay connected to the community long after we’ve returned home.

This short film captures Water Filter Day as it happened, on the ground, in the homes, and alongside the people who made it possible.

A huge thank you to @ivansanchezfotografia. Brother, thank you for bringing your creativity, energy, and perspective to this trip. From the early mornings to the long days in the field, you were always willing to jump in wherever needed. This video is a reflection of the care and intention you put into documenting these moments, and I’m grateful you were part of the experience. Stoked for the adventures and stories still ahead. We love you!

We’ll be sharing more photos, videos, stories, and adventures from Guatemala soon.

To everyone who volunteered, donated, supported, and believed in this project, thank you! None of this would have been possible without you.

This is only the beginning, and we’re stoked to keep building together. 💙💧🇬🇹

As we celebrate World Water Day, we also celebrate our third birthday of WATA🌊

To show how much this holiday means so much to us at WATA, our founder Cyrus wanted to share a bit about why it’s so impactful.

“I told myself that I wanna always be doing this work, so on World Water day I’m super grateful for the opportunity to be able to do that. I’m thankful for like everyone who’s like supported, donated, and shared our work that kind of made this moment right now possible that I could be looking back. Saying we’ve been doing this nonprofit or even running this nonprofit… We’ve been supporting these communities and we’ve been setting up water filters for three years now. Our first trip with water was on World Water day, which is amazing and now on our third birthday… It’s even more incredible that we’re doing the work. For me, World Water day is like a day of hope which sounds kind of odd, but I think we live in such an intense world right now. There’s always so much negativity and hate, sadness, death…That we kind of as a society, kind of lose perspective on what’s important. I think a day like today, World Water day which highlights that not only the important work— the amazing work that other nonprofits and people are doing around the world to support the cause, but also highlights the benefits of what happens when people get clean drinking water is super important.”

Without the support of our community, we wouldn’t be here. Thank you💙

After inviting families from a nearby Rakhine village to join Water Filter Day in Ngwe Saung, we ended the afternoon sharing a meal at a small local soup shop

The village we visited is part of the Rakhine community, one of Myanmar’s many ethnic groups with deep roots along the coast and a strong cultural identity. Sitting down over food, sharing stories, and laughing together felt like a meaningful way to slow down and connect.

For us, moments like this matter. Clean water work isn’t only about filters and systems, it’s also about building trust, learning from one another, and showing up with care for the communities we’re welcomed into.

Grateful for the hospitality, the shared table, and the connections that make this work feel human.
