Fans of ‘We Are the Brennans’ are in for a treat with Tracey Lange’s sophomore endeavor, ‘The Connelys if County Down’
While I loved both novels, I felt that The Connelys is a more robust story with romance, mystery, and secrets. The two stories have many similarities, both dealing with dysfunctional Irish families, who make mistakes but strive to make things right. In both books the siblings have strong bonds and are always there for each other.
This is a character driven novel and Lange does an excellent job of making the reader care for the characters.
The Connelys have been dealt a pretty bad hand. Geraldine, Eddie, and Tara lost their parents when they were young. Geraldine took on the pressure and responsibility of raising her younger siblings. She is now spiraling at work, while trying to maintain rigid order at home. When the story begins, Tara has just been released from jail, what really happened is not revealed until the last part of the book. Eddie suffered a traumatic brain injury years ago, but he lives with the repercussions daily, while raising his son as a single dad.
The Connelys’ mother used to tell them a story, ‘The Connelys of County Down’. It was a fairy tale where each sibling had a special power, working together, they found their way out of a forest. It is the reminder of this story that makes Tara realize she does not have to do everything on her own.
This is a great story about family, forgiveness and second chances. I highly recommend. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We are so pumped for all of the amazing art going up around the neighborhood as part of @colfaxcanvas!

In addition enjoying the mural art, make sure to stop by the @peoplesbuilding because we in collaboration with @acadartists are bringing out some 🔥 vendors to shop while you enjoy the food trucks and music by @dj_cyn.

These are proudly independent local businesses composed of some wildly talented people. So come through and see what #shopsmall and #shoplocal is all about. We promise you’ll love it 🧡
