💔 Sometimes what breaks your heart the most is not the destruction we see around us but the childhood we watch slipping away before our eyes and cannot save

Today Yazan and I were playing among the rubble of our home yes among the rubble in a place where nothing remains but our memories and the broken pieces of a life that once felt like a real life I tried to laugh with him to share moments of happiness with him and to help him forget the cruelty of this world for a little while but how can a father forget all this pain even for a moment when he sees his child playing among the ruins of his home instead of playing somewhere safe like every child in the world deserves

When I look at Yazan I see a little boy who wants nothing from this world except to play and laugh and feel safe He does not understand why his home has become rubble or why he has to live surrounded by so much fear Sometimes I wish I could hold him in my arms and hide him from this entire world I wish I could close his eyes to all this destruction and open them to a world that deserves to be lived in

Do you know what one of the most painful feelings a father can experience is To see sadness where happiness should be and to try to draw a smile on his child’s face while his own heart silently breaks because he cannot give him even the simplest things that every child deserves

I do not want Yazan to grow up remembering rubble fear and deprivation I want him to remember his father playing with him and to know one day that I tried with everything I had to protect his childhood even on the days when I felt powerless in the face of all this pain 💔

Today my little boy Yazan turns two years old 🫶
Two years that felt like a lifetime filled with fear, prayers, and waiting. Every time his birthday approaches, that old pain returns to my heart the memory of his last birthday, when there was no cake, no candles, only displacement, fear, and sounds that stole the joy of the moment from us. For days, I have been asking myself: can I make this birthday different? A memory that looks like childhood, not pain?!! I am a father, and all I want today is to see my son laugh from the bottom of his heart 😔, to watch him clap his tiny hands in front of a cake with his name on it 🥹, and to hold his new toy as if the world had become safe again, even if only for a moment. I want Yazan, even for one single day, to feel that life is still capable of giving him joy, and that he is surrounded by people who love him and wish him well. Yazan does not understand the meaning of displacement or the cruelty of these days, but he understands love, he understands a warm embrace, and he understands that little sparkle of happiness in his eyes when we celebrate him. Today, I am not asking for something big I am only searching for a smile that will stay in his memory when he grows up, and for a beautiful picture that is not mixed with fear and tears. If you can share even a small part in Yazan’s happiness, then you are not simply giving a donation you are helping a father who is trying, with everything left in his heart, to protect his child’s innocence from sadness and give him a day filled with safety, love, and warmth ❤️
Please keep Yazan in your prayers on his second birthday, and may life bring him kinder and more beautiful days 🤍
