Loved this wild ride!

I probably enjoyed it because of the intense, honest exploration of early motherhood - it completely resonated with me! The frustration of loving your child so completely, while trying to keep some semblance of your 'self' from before they existed. And the experience of travelling and living abroad so fabulously, yet yearning for home. 👌🫶

Now I just need to sit down with @jaynetuttle and ask specific questions about the story and if it was all true or not! X

Au revoir to the greatest Cite, where I met tons of great people, swam in a beautiful pool, learned the meaning of Canicule, saw some great art. Oh, and wrote a book. Merci a toutes et tous

Fifty years of feasting on original thought. Of radio so real you can reach out and touch it. Of properly loving stuff that’s good and fun: friends and music and art and culture and the delicious fever of saying yes. Happy birthday Triple R.

Literati Glitterati is the novelty-sized birthday cake of my life, and it is just so fun to explode out of that cake weekly, with wonderful books and their deliciously clever and sensitive authors.

My darling friend, art monster and book peddler Jayne Tuttle will be joining me on the airwaves today. Ours was a friendship forged on the radio and so it just makes sense to sing the happy big birthday song side by side. I love you Jayne! I love the way you write and think! I love your books! I love your bookshop!

We’d love to read your names out. Subscribe if you can. Support what’s good! Midday till 1pm.

As someone who caught the Parisian bug early in life and then had to see the city in a completely different way after having a kid, this memoir deeply resonates. Jayne and her husband fell in love as students in Paris. But life as a mom in Paris, struggling to make ends meet, makes the City of Light feel a bit dimmer. I’m with my son Atlas in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, juggling mom life, book life, and drinking this delightful masala chai. We have to get our plaisirs where we can, and maybe the city’s light, as dynamic as this tea, shines differently whatever stage we’re in. Enjoy! 📚 🍵 🫖 #bookandteapairings #lecture #booksandtea #parisienne #bookrecommendations

“There’s this fantastic 80s video of a conversation between a very young Isabelle Huppert and Jean-Luc Godard between scenes on Sauve Qui Peut. Huppert is lost, trying to find who she is within the role, asking the director what she should do, who she should be. Knowing isn’t interesting, he says. Seeing is interesting. She sits uncomfortably with this. It sucks that feeling of not knowing, but that is the dreadful state of when you’re really doing the work. I wrote it on a post-it, for when I’m in the mire, which is pretty much always”.
