Five lessons from 20 years in performance 💭

1. Your environment will beat your willpower.
The highest performers don’t rely on motivation. They build the right people, systems and structure around them so they can focus on performing to the best of their ability.

2. Consistency beats intensity.
One incredible workout, week or month rarely changes someone. The people who transform are the ones who execute the basics relentlessly… They aren’t sexy, but the ‘Brilliant Basics’ get results…

3. What got you here won’t get you there.
Every new level demands a different version of you. Different habits. Different standards. Different people around you. Growth requires being willing to outgrow what previously made you successful.

4. Recovery is part of performance, not the opposite of it.
After working with world champions, elite athletes and high-performing CEOs, one thing becomes obvious: More definitely isn’t always better. L, Hard work is a pre-requisite, but optimisation comes from knowing when to PUSH & when PULL back.
Similar to point 2 - The goal is to be able to perform at your highest level, repeatedly, for years.

5. You never arrive.
Twenty years in performance has taught me that there is no finish line. There is always another level physically, professionally and personally. The moment you think you know everything is usually the moment you stop progressing.

High performance isn’t something you achieve. It’s something you build… and then keep building.

Thank you for all of the athletes, CEO’s and organisations who’s trusted me over the past 20 years, appreciate each, and every one of you.

Prevention is better than cure 🦾

Implementing injury prevention exercises alongside individualised strength training develops neuromuscular capacity and tissue tolerance to withstand the high mechanical demands of elite football.

I never sleep on my prevention work! 💯 Here are 7 essential exercises I use regularly with my athletes to ensure their bodies are prepared for the game.

As always working alongside @theathletesroomuk support of my players’ programmes 🤝
