God has truly blessed me to be able to serve on Murray’s homecoming court this year. To be nominated homecoming king is solely through the Lord’s provision and I couldn’t be more grateful.

A huge thank you to @msu.hsc for nominating me and especially to @roniyamariee for being such an incredible running mate! Also thank you to everyone who supported us through our candidacy and all who voted for us! Thank you to my family and fiancée @nataleebrooke__ for their support through the process as well. It was so cool to have @jaredjuenger and @maggieryanw pass on the crowns this year and a huge congratulations to @madsss.mccormic on becoming Homecoming Queen!

Lastly, shoutout to the all the candidates that were a part of the court this year. It was awesome getting to interact with y’all throughout the whole process. They couldn’t have picked a better group of folks to represent Murray State.

The forgotten Herpetology files featuring @jbhewlettwild and a brightly colored male eastern fence lizard (Sceloporus undulatus).

For the record, he REALLY did not want to bite.

I gave a fun seminar at @murraystateuniv on behalf of @alaudubon last week as my ride there came full-circle. It was nostalgic waking up on Kentucky Lake with loons and waxwings calling as morning broke, complete with a stay in the Audubon cabin at @hancockbiologicalstation, the field station where I spent countless hours during my Master's.

It was wonderful seeing @wadebwildlife and my advisor, Tim, and catching up with @jbhewlettwild, plus other great friends like Hap and Skip. Although I wasn't officially defending my thesis and thus having no need for a committee, I was honored that my thesis committee showed up in support anyway. Though it had been nearly 6 years since I was here last, it felt like just yesterday that I walked out of here. Except this time, I left after sharing my passion for bird conservation and in my home state of AL with my Murray State peers, with a degree already in-hand, and with @paamci by my side. Onward and upward!

Thank you, John, for sharing your photo with us! See more of John's work at @jbhewlettwild. Follow the link in our bio to read more about this image on our Photo of the Month blog.

#PhotofotheMonth is an intersection between art and science. By showcasing the beauty and intriguing behavior of these often misunderstood creatures, we hope to inspire a new generation of wildlife enthusiasts, naturalists, and conservationists, who can become the advocates these animals so desperately need. Brought to you by our Director of Communication, Tracy Karplus.

Pilot, biologist, and snake wrangler extraordinaire @jbhewlettphoto took me up in to the sky for the first time and it was a pretty fantastic experience. Seeing home from a new vantage point isn't something I'll not soon forget. Thanks again ☺️

Obligatory first day selfies. I am excited to see what this final year at Murray state has for us!

Yesterday we pulled probably the last blood sample from "Pete" the pink rattlesnake. Bittersweet for the entire crew, particularly my graduate lead, as this snake has been part of the project for over a year. While we will continue to track him until his transmitter goes kaput, we will not be looking at any more hormones from this guy.

Back in California after getting to return to Arizona for the Biology of the Pitvipers 3 conference. Was great to catch up with some old friends, meet some new ones, and return to some of my old stomping grounds to turn up some critters even in the parched conditions. First photo is with my undergraduate advisor Matt Goode (left) and my PhD advisor Bill Hayes (right). Second photo is of the man, the myth, the legend himself Howard McKinney (the man hired Santana before he was Santana). Third pic is finally meeting John Hewlett after years of being "facebook friends" and the last are of some crotes. #pitvipers #rattlesnakes #rattlesnake #Arizona #herpetology #fieldherping #crotalus #Crotaluswillardi #Crotaluslepidusklauberi #conference #science #research #friends #publiclandowner #publicland #keepitpublic

It turns out that Land Between the Lakes is almost as cool as the forests in St. Louis
