Round two is here! Get in before August for EARLY bird “tickets.” The price WILL go up August 1st.

Lazy River and chill is about water guns, singing, laughing, meeting new people and soaking up the sun. It’s Black joy. It’s community. We all we need to survive energy. We will make sure we all get back safely on THIS river!!
Feel free to leave your personal tubes and rafts at home. We’ve already taken care of all the reservations and rafts organizing. Your registration covers the raft, life jacket, the organization, and the chartered bus ride back. All you have to do is show up. This not the “we doing our own thing” weekend. This, we together and all fam weekend.

Bring your tribe or come solo and have a hell of a time too. You do not have active friends who like this stuff? Well, this is where you meet them!! Outdoors, in nature, active and in health. You already got something in common with that woman you see walking past with a water gun and a sunscreen on!! We’ll get everyone on a raft and before the day is over, you’ll probably have water in your ears and a few new friends. Last week we had Philly, Los Angeles, Texas, Phoenix and Atlanta pull up for an over school fun trip where there will be more water guns out than content creators.

It’s going to be one of those days you’ll be talking about long after summer is over. Bragging to your friends that you summered the hell out this day. #summertoohot #americanriver #summerfun #510hikers

If it’s not the best time you have all summer… it’ll definitely hold you over until that best time shows up.

Cashap is $510hikers Venmo is nicholas-collins-12. Send payment in and we add you to our entry list to check in the morning of. There is no “day of” paying. And if you pay but miss the day, you just donated a ticket to someone else (no refunds unless we have to cancel). We’ll see you on the river. 🌊💦

Saturday started with music, champagne, celebratory shots and cupcakes from the BEST dessert maker in Sacramento @spidermonkeyinwonderland . After getting checked in, wristbands on and our water guns loaded we hit the river, cooled off, got lazy, laughed, floated, splashed and spent the day in fun community under the sun.

As I look back on the day, I can’t help but think about Nolan Wells. I don’t know all the circumstances surrounding his passing, but it reminds me of something important: too often, people of color feel like we have to choose between our neighborhoods and enjoying the outdoors. We often have to abandon friends and culture to join certain outdoor activities. Well, part of fix is to have these gatherings so that you can meet a friend or three DOWN for rivers and outdoor fun. Solo if you have to!! If you do, you will not leave without new outdoor buddies. Thats who @510hikers is. That’s our culture.

So, River & Chill is about showing we don’t have to make that choice. The river is just as much nature as hiking.
We can bring the neighborhood to the river. We can show up together. We can look out for one another. We can create spaces where BLACK JOY, community, and safety all exist at the same time. And most importantly, we can all make it back home safely.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make Volume 1 something special. Shout out to @blackhikers_explore_sacramento of Sacramento who did a lot of helpful behind the scenes work to make this happen. @sacsistercircle thank you for showing up. @sacsistas.workoutcrew as well. What group is joining us this time? Tag your group you want to see out.

🌊 River & Chill Vol. 2 is Saturday, August 29.
We have to limit the attendance to 250 people. Once we’re full, we’re full. Please no personal boats (they take up our launch space). We made it affordable so keep those inner tubs at home, pay for a spot on the 12 man big rafts we rent. So, put the gathering on your calendar and get ready for another unforgettable energy and day of community, BLACK JOY, good vibes, and water gun fights. 💦

I’ll post a full recap on Monday, but in the meantime I HAD to send love to the 255 people who made it out.

Thank you for getting up early, making the drive from all over the Bay Area, for flying in for this. We know it’s not the champagne, music or river that brings us back. It’s the community. Something 510 Hikers has been able to maintain for a decade plus now.

I’m going to keep saying this because it’s important:

510 Hikers do not put on events.

We live in a world where a lot of event groups disguise themselves as community. There’s a difference.

We’re not 12 years into a business, we’re 12 years into building community, making spaces, blazing paths. Community is when everyone shares responsibility for making gatherings welcoming, fun, and meaningful. We not putting on a show and talking with lil bushy microphones to get you to spend money and call it community. We just want to be the ones who stand up to the bullies who want to have others believe nature spaces are not for black and brown folks.

A huge thank you to @spidermonkeyinwonderland for sharing her talents and love and mixing them together to share what makes her the best cake and dessert maker in Sacramento (tell me I’m lying!!!!) and @raftrentals for always taking care of our group.

Round 2. August 29th. Wash those swimsuits, get the river water out of your ears if you got blasted by Black Sparrow on the seas, and next time, bring family.
Let’s have another fun time before summer ends. Save the linen parties for them cool kid types and we will be out with water guns on the river looking out for each other.

Shout out to @slightly_handsomehiker for making it from Philly. @zared__m from ATL and @jbrad1182 from Texas. Catching flights to come kick it. Also local hero @liberian_queen19 for all the behind the scenes help and @blackhikers_explore_sacramento for teaming up.
