I already knew how special this show was going to be going into it. Being able to do this with these people will go down in history as the greatest honor of my life. Little did I know that my life would put me here in this moment with the icon that is @missyfrediot . To be able to hear her story and her wisdom will be something I hold with me forever. Thank you @misskathleenhallofficial thank you @baldwinsvilletheatreguild for giving us this incredible opportunity. If you told middle school Maddie that she would hear Fredi mooing with her one day she would never believe it. These next two performances will be for Jonathon ❤️

Everyone was asked their favorite lyric. So I thought about mine. I’ve had this show memorized since it came out in 1996, how could I have a favorite?! And then they came spinning towards me in rehearsal as Aiden and Kilian shredded the air with this anthem, the words cutting me to the quick. Are they my favorite? No, but they were the words that favored me and have become the summation of what being involved in Rent has meant to me personally as I keep choosing to step into community, bring light, a be a part of something bigger than my little world.

Connection. First point of connection: Adam. Adam, thank you for giving me the space, allowance and voice as your “dance” partner. Adding to the collaboration, Joel and David and our talents, heart and dedication, this team has been dreamy. The fulfillment of collaboration is a gift I’ll cherish forever. Second is THIS CAST. The community built, the care and respect, the belonging, thank you for including me in your journey and valuing me alongside you.

This show is needed for this moment in history, for the theatre community, for us in this isolating age. We cannot underestimate the dark-breaking power in unified community, the strength in the bonds of chosen family and the unquenchable human spirit to fight for decency. So grateful for Jonathan Larson’s requiem, may this battle cry move us all to measure our lives in love.

MEET THE CAST

James Mitchell
Character: Ensemble (Mr. Grey/Cop)
Favorite Song: Light My Candle
Favorite Line: “Mimi: You’re staring again. Roger: Oh no, I mean you do… have a nice, I mean…"
Why I wanted to be in RENT at BTG: "Having performed in RENT in the past, I have always dreamed to perform in the musical again. To be able to come at it with a different set of eyes, and mind knowing what I know now, and how I have developed as a human, actor and singer is such a full circle moment. It’s a truly beautiful collection of moments that the cast has with the audience and them in turn, because they see that cast on stage truly living the roles and telling this story that enlightened and inspired so many people at a crucial point in time."

It takes a cool $200 to deck out, spotlight, and amplify each star in RENT! Want to be part of the fun? Help by sponsoring @jcmitchell30 with a small donation (any amount will help) and together we’ll sprinkle some theatrical magic! 🎭✨ Link to donate in Bio
