Making the most of it

I started wrestling in the 8th grade, and to be honest, I was probably one of the worst wrestlers in Tennessee at the time. My first middle school season ended with a record of 1–12. Growing up, everyone in my family played basketball or football. In fact, almost everyone in my community did too. I was the only wrestler not just in my family, but in my entire Avondale community. When I first started, people laughed. Some told me wrestling wasn’t for me. Many thought I would quit.
I could have listened to them. I could have walked away.
But I didn’t.
Instead, I gave myself another chance.
I improved from 1–8 to 12–12. It wasn’t perfect, but it was progress. And even then, I knew I had more in me. So I kept pushing, kept believing, and kept showing up when nobody else believed I could succeed.
Eventually, all that hard work paid off. I became a Tennessee State Champion at 138 pounds.
What many people didn’t know was that I was also a very sick child. I was born with asthma and spent countless days and nights in hospitals. Even today, I still deal with it. But I refused to let it define my future.
Wrestling took me farther than I ever imagined. It gave me the opportunity to compete in college and eventually represent my country internationally on the world stage.
If I could go back in time and meet that scared little 8th grader who only won one match, I’d put my arm around him and say:
“Keep going. The road ahead won’t be easy. There will be setbacks, heartbreaks, and challenges you never expected. But there will also be victories, friendships, and opportunities beyond your imagination. One day you’ll travel the world, meet incredible people, and discover that your love for wrestling connects you to a global family. Don’t quit. Your story is just getting started.”
Never let where you start determine where you finish.
Sometimes the kid who struggles the most becomes the one with the story worth telling.#wrestling #wrestlingforhope #internationalwrestling #grateful

✨The inaugural NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championship✨

What a moment for our sport. It was so inspiring to watch these women compete on such a big stage. I’m so grateful for my first season at King where I’m surrounded by such incredible coaches, athletes, and friends. Very proud of this team, and excited for what’s ahead.

Thank you God.

Whatever comes next I’ll be prepared for solely because of this sport. Though I didn’t end up with what I wanted I proved to be one of the best on the stage and that I can thank God for everyday. I’ll forever be grateful
