One year ago I wrote a status just like this one, and I was so scared. The ominous presence that was 2019 felt overwhelming and all I had was faith in a miracle working God and an army of friends.
One year on I feel compelled to testify, with tissue in hand, to the miraculous.
My children are all teenagers now, and we have walked through hell this past year and have not been consumed. They are courageous and I’m humbled to be their mom.
My Pastors and staff are not the same people they were a year ago. David, Nick and Angie have grown exponentially this year and we are stronger for it.
Courtney and James joined paid staff this year and they are the sun, moon and all of my stars, taking what was entrusted to them and making something beautiful with it.
Our youth leaders, Josh and Lindsey have cultivated a tender space for our youth to find and experience Jesus on their own terms.
Lorrie not only ran the church but organized a bedroom makeover with Cheryl Stauffer and team Hollis.
New bathrooms.
Miracle babies at LIFE.
I travelled home to Australia with my kids and walked the beaches of my childhood, healing my broken heart with every sandy step.
I travelled to the Himalayan mountains with the best team in the world and got to officiate the most romantic wedding ever (three different times). I received the best hug of my life from one of the boys in our India home, who told me that he thanked God that he was named Simon, so that every time I visited I got to be hugged by Simon.
I learned how to preach regularly and consistently.
I was given a huge gift of mentoring, coaching and Spiritual direction this year by Vineyard USA, fulfilling a 20 year old desire of mine.
We had our biggest Selah conference ever.
I was sent hundreds of encouraging cards in the mail, and thousands of texts and messages. I read and treasured every single one of them.
I got to baptize 33 people this year, and pray specially for a word from the Lord for each of them.
My yard was cared for, my HVAC redone, my odd jobs done and my firewood chopped.
I was held by the love of friends that are now family, both here and around the world.
I believe in Miracles.
2020 I’m ready.

There is a deeper sorrow that blankets the hearts of those who are grieving death, unspoken and unexpressed. This subtle distortion permeates everyday moments, threatening to further isolate the grief bearer. No one teaches you how to properly interact with a grieving person; to mention or not to mention is the eternal question, making for a myriad of social awkwardness. Friends that push through the awkward are my new heroes, friends that aren’t afraid to laugh and cry with me and around me. This picture, taken by Taylor, is one I’ll treasure forever because in this candid moment I am not a grieving widow - I am a woman, laughing with a table full of friends who love me enough to go there with me. I might have cried on the way home, but in this moment, the joy of being treated like a normal person was the biggest gift of all. @tlums
