Honestly I’m still processing Friday.
A lot was talked about during the TrakLife performance, in such a beautiful intimate sold out (over-capacity) space 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Shout out to the whole team. Thank you all for everything.

Help me find a safe space.

UNMADE 💙
9 months with this incredible cast and team of people who made something so wild, messy, and special possible. 4 hours of I’m improvisational constructing, destroying, dancing, playing, laughing, yelling, whispering, loving. I think we did it 7 times but tbh I’m not sure. I just know that I had the chance to be lost inside this world long enough to come out the other end different from who I was before. Unmade is one of the projects that makes me so grateful that I have the opportunity to do the work that I do. Thank you @willjrawls for being so creative, caring, risk-taking, and supportive through the entire process. It was an honor 💙
And of course to my castmates/teachers:
@aajjaannii
@_gumyb
@kensakushinohara
@_de_jon_
@tiarahackd
And the entire Hammer team of whch I’m missing a few:
@curat0rial.angel
@crashleyak
@hammer_museum
And @margie__k !!!
And @emilybthatsme !!
And costumes by @nancystellasoto !!!!
And design witch @vacholas !!!!

Let’s do it again 😈

“As they dance with one another, their sultry movement reveals both their beauty and confidence, blurring the line between masculinity and femininity...Brown beautifully infuses narrative into these abstract reflections on queerness.”

ONGOING.

Since April 2026, I have had the great opportunity to deepen my relationship to Katherine Dunham and her research, the cascading and interwoven embodied, theoretical, creative, scholarly and spiritual research, through a weekly practice.

The REDCAT gallery, partially transformed into a dance studio , “Cry Variations” 2026 by Harmony Holiday, has been a container for me, Harmony and the influx of moving bodies - primarily folks of color - to engage with the Dunham technique and practical application of the theories and philosophies attached.

Responsive. The task often was beyond the steps and more about responsiveness to the human beings in the space, caring for the embodied legacies that live through the form and through a Black experience. We tangled with memory, remembrance and passing it on.

The period has urged me to really consider the power of codes and codification; codification in choreography and movement generally as a form of care, the body as both an archive and a tool. I believe that many of us in Afican diasporic forms, Black Dance forms are bond up in care for ourselves, our ancestors and our culture(s) through the ritual and deep knowing of the body. Our spines bridges through space and time - forward, back, up, down and across. I give thanks.

Ms. Dunham played through video in fragments on the wall, watching over us and guiding us. As did visions of Ailey, Bill T, and Talley.

Today was the last class. But this may be just the beginning…

Regular practice has been a balm, a steadying through the storm. More community. Now, more than ever.

Thank you Harmony, Daniela and Katie for the invitation and for the opportunity.

“‘Sissies: Something Perfect Between Ourselves’ is for my people. We are blueprints, carving and cultivating our own spaces, sounds and sense of kinship in the face of oppression. Our existence is resistance. We refuse narratives of lack or inferiority. We hold a fierce internal knowing, adorned with a fabulosity that remains on the cutting edge.
Sissies honors our icons, both the living and the ancestors.
Sissies honors the legacy of Black Queer parties and clubs across Los Angeles - spaces that have long served as
sanctuaries for activism, joy, care, and creative expression.

Black Queerness is our rebellious birthright.”

Through a stunning performance by triple threat Jordan Slaffey, Rota Fortunae traverses a sea of emotion: from longing to desperation, seduction to fury, obsession to transcendence.

Last night ( 04.18.26), I had the pleasure of attending a performance by my fellow Grammy-voting colleague, J. Ivy, and his band at the Blue Note Los Angeles. It was a moving and inspiring experience that served as a reminder to always continue expanding, learning, and growing.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of National Poetry Month, I am sharing a snippet of "Speak," a spoken word and storytelling experience featuring my Griot Band: Kenneth Brown (trumpet), Derrick Butler (keyboards), Quinn Sims (upright bass), and Lorenzo Sanford III (cajon drum).

Special thanks to Cleo King, Dr. Karla Brown, and Tilita Lutterloh for their testimonies. I would also like to acknowledge Jason Williams for the photography and Eternal for the archival footage. Truly, it takes a village.

For bookings, please see the link in my bio.

Gratitude and appreciation.
