I’m back with another @ebonymagazine Beauty & Grooming Awards, and this year, I really leaned into what it means to test beauty in real life. I tapped our staff and even their kids to put hundreds of products through the kind of routines that actually matter. Not a one-time swipe or a quick try, but daily use, long days, early mornings, and everything in between.

And to kick it all off, I brought that same spirit to Brooklyn. For the 2026 Beauty and Grooming Awards kickoff, EBONY did what felt obvious and overdue. We took it back to where it all begins and dropped the salon right in the middle of Brooklyn. Not as nostalgia, but as infrastructure. A reminder that Black beauty has always been built in community, passed hand to hand, chair to chair. From the door, it felt like a function, with cocktails inspired by beauty rituals and a room that moved like a real salon floor, full of conversation, connection, and culture.

After months of testing, vetting, and rotating products through our routines, I can confidently say the 2026 EBONY Beauty & Grooming Awards spotlight the ones that actually deliver. Across skincare, haircare, makeup, fragrance, grooming, tools, kids, and clean beauty, every winner earned its place. The focus was simple: what truly works for melanin-rich skin and how we actually live. s/o to team @ebonymagazine

💜🎥🎺In June, my team traveled to Paris and Normandy to film the Marching 100 of St. Augustine High School perform at official ceremonies for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. What was supposed to be small editorial recap turned into an amazing 3-part documentary. These amazing young men not only represented their school but our country. We turned our @ebonymagazine website purple for a St. Augustine takeover, we hosted two screenings in New Orleans which included a panel hosted by yours truly with Aulston Taylor, President & CEO of @staugnola, Stephen Watson, President of the @wwiimuseum and my amazing boss @cjrodney, EVP of Content and President of @ebony_studios.

Shoutout to my amazing team @athenaturalista @isthatyadira @s.im @jeanamonea. WE DID THAT!
