Here’s a rare clip from when @jec__star passed by the museum and we spoke about the evolution of graffiti. Graffiti has come a long way, from simple tags on subway trains to fully painted masterpieces covering entire subway cars. What started with writers claiming space with their names evolved into complex compositions, with artists eventually painting multiple cars from top to bottom. JEC Star is a pioneering New York graffiti writer from the formative years of the culture. Active as early as 1968, JEC Star was part of the first generation of writers who helped establish graffiti across New York City. He was also connected to UGA (United Graffiti Artists), the groundbreaking collective that helped bring graffiti from the streets and subway walls into galleries and studio spaces. JEC Star’s place in graffiti history represents the foundation of a movement that would go on to change graffiti forever. From tags to masterpieces, JEC Star was there from the beginning. Blackbook session special dedication to SNAKE1 •Snake 1 (born Eddie Rodriguez) is a pioneering first-generation American graffiti artist from New York City and a founding father of the legendary Writers Corner 188 (W.C. 188) crew SNAKE 1 was a Washington Heights writer and one of the founding fathers of WRITERS CORNER 188, christening it by adding ‘W.C. 188’ to his name on walls, buses and subway trains and later becoming vice president of the crew. He was STITCH 1’s writing partner and among the first approached by Hugo Martinez to join UGA. Due to the proliferation of other writers using the name Snake, he added the now-iconic slogan “King of All Snakes, Ya Dig!” to his signature whenever possible. SNAKE 1 never faded far from the graffiti world and might still be caught out there 50 years later. • Blackbook session by: BETO Beto Landsky 156 TDS ROC TGO TDT EX VANDALS #graffitiwriter #graffitiwriters #snake1 #graffitiartist #betolandsky

LAST SURVIVORS Now available at www.hitzerot.com Greg Lamarche, within the graffiti scene better known as SP.ONE, is a famous writer from New York City who started out in 1981. In the 1990s he began to publish the well-known SKILLS magazine and managed to keep graffiti in his life to this day whether its his brilliant handstyle, unique throw-ups, high quality pieces or the graff-related artworks he exhibits as fine artist. LAST SURVIVORS is a brand new publication by him spotlighting earliest New York namewriting traces he found under layers of paper on advertising panels in subway stations around town. A lot of these panels seemingly have never been cleaned but just kept on pasted over with new ads and this way conserved writings with 50 years of age or even older underneath. Between 2015 and 2025 Lamarche systematically visited these hidden treasures and resurfaced unique remains from a long gone era. The late 60s and early 70s writings include well and lesser known names, political and religious messages as well as romantic inscriptions executed with spray can, marker and in some cases seemingly even oil chalk. LAST SURVIVROS opens with an introduction by Greg Lamarche and he even added a detailed index including the exact location which allows to track down the traces of legendary writers like FDT56, FRANK207, JEC*, LA-ZAR, LEE163D, LSD-OM, MICO, SJK171, STAYHIGH149, TABU1, TRACY168 or VINNY. We are especially proud to be able to offer you the European version of this outstanding book.
