At the iconic @doxa.house with Courtney & Jed. A day that has nuzzled its way onto my heart and settled there with such a sacred warmth. These two, this place - it really was magic.

The most special weddings I have been a part of have been the weddings infused with care. That feeling of sincerity oozes into every fibre of a wedding day and radiates out of the imagery in return- and this day, really holds that feeling for me.

Berlin, you are so cool and I don’t think you’re really even trying. It is Sunday and groups of people everywhere linger for hours, because what is the rush anyway. Groups spill over the rolling lawns, wooden benches are nestled in between trees. Jed said he was the only runner along the river- everyone else is relaxing, luxuriating in the mild sunshine. I yearn for the US to value relaxation more, it’s so good for us. Let us luxuriate more. In the evening, cigarette smoke plumes above each small, aluminum table that somehow balances on cobblestones. Four or five friends crowd around the cramped space, conversation bubbling over and laughter melting together. No one is glancing around ready to leave. German words carve, dip and curve, to me it sounds like a soft, sharp cheese. Chipped nail polish, minimal makeup, pitchers of wine ordered long after the last bites of dinner. Another cigarette is slowly rolled and savored. Servers could not care less if you are there for 30 minutes or two hours. In the morning, babies are being carted to and from school in their parents’ bike baskets. Graffiti dances on the bridges and cement structures, police sirens sound in the distance. A woman stalls in the bike path with her dog— the leash is stretched across the entire walkway, preventing anyone from crossing and no one cares or says anything, they simply swerve around her. There is movement but no urgency, a flow without a rush. Pursuit, but it is not frantic. I jog slowly along the river with no watch, unsure of pace or time and it feels divine. Swans glide lazily alongside the ducks. Houseboats gently rock and the water laps at the ships’ sides. We stop for chocolate bread and a coffee, sip slowly as the bees descend on our sweets and who can blame them. Sweat settles and my skin is cool to the touch. Two parents are out with their toddlers who are teetering, giggling with early morning, still-sleepy giddiness. The air is refreshing and easy, autumn has already kissed the winds of the city. We walk and drink, at ease and content. There are one million corners of the city we will never see but for today this is enough. Isn’t always? And so it is.
