POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Welcome to week two of our How We’ve Changed series! (You can look back in our posts from last week for some context, and catch up on our first feature). Today, we are featuring Jeffrey Cooper! Jeff Cooper (he/him/his) is a Surrey-born, Vancouver-based jack-of-all “creative” trades whose work focuses on mixed race Black identity and African Diaspora. A learner, a perpetual student, and a class clown, Jeff has versatility in holding simultaneous space for laughter, gravity, and revolution in all of his projects. Jeff is the creator of The Mixd Project, a collection of Photographs and Narratives of Black folks of mixed race. The Mixd Project seeks to bring a critical lens to ideas of race through the stories of those who fit outside of its traditional constructs. You can check out the Mixd Project at www.themixdproject.com, on Instagram @the_mixd_project, or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching The Mixd Project. (You can also follow Jeff at @jeff_cooper!) — “Before the uprising my sense of my identity had been blossoming in a really beautiful way.  The Mixd Project really helped gain a sense of where I fit in this whole thing.  A lot of the "shit" I had about being too white for the Black folks are too Black for the white folks was melting away and I felt myself becoming firmly anchored in a racial identity. It helped as well that at the same time the Black community, in real life, online, and in media was becoming more like me. Gayer, less traditional, more subversive. Now, post-Uprising, my sense of identity is stronger than ever. It's my relationship with whiteness, and non-Black folks’ relationship with me that's changed.   Prior to the uprising my relationship with my White friends felt unshakable and their solidarity with me was unquestioned.  It went unexamined and it was just assumed that they either "got it" or got that they didn’t "get it" and couldn’t.  And that felt fine and we all just carried on with our lives. Following the Uprising, it got IMMEDIATELY uncomfortable. "Continued in comments"

🌃🌌New York🌌🌃 What a trip! I really felt like I needed to come back to this city to re-experience it in a different way... surround myself with different experiences and energies. This trip was full of creativity, inspiration, feelings of gratitude, some fear, forgiveness, closure and tons of love. Grateful for all the encounters and lessons this trip has brought me. (Being petty but I'll say this till the end of time, LGA be the worst airport and I'm actually staying here one more day cause flight delays were bad 🤡) . . . . #blasian #asian #travel #newyork #nyc #newyorkcity #travel #picoftheday #instagram #instadaily

Hey all! During the summer I had the opportunity to meet with @jeff_cooper from @the_mixd_project to chat about my experience being Blasian! Take a moment to listen to Episode 4 of @the_mixd_project if you have the time! Link in @the_mixd_project 's bio or visit themixdproject.com! . . . . <<Repost>> In this ep I interview Illustrator and Author Pearl Low @fumichun who's work centres around her mixed Black and Chinese heritage. We talk about the complexities of belonging in Cantonese culture while also finding space for her Afro identity. We get into hair, pressure to confirm to east Asian cultural norms and expectation from your peers to meet black stereotypes. It's a good one. Give it a listen on Spotify, Apple iTunes and Google Play. . . . . . #blasian #asian #chinese #cantonese #black #jamaican #mixed #biracial #interview #podcast #instadaily #instagood #instagram #instadaily
