Are you just running reps, or are you actually designing better decision-makers?

A few weeks ago, I spent some time at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s training center attending Jeff Johnsgaard’s “Professional Problem Creator” instructor development course. As an instructor who lives in the Force Science and human performance space, this curriculum perfectly validated and expanded on what we do at Stronghold Dynamic.

The core takeaway? Effective instruction isn’t about just demonstrating physical skills or managing a firing line. It’s about engineering deliberate, evidence-based challenges, incorporating desirable difficulties and effortful retrieval, so students genuinely retain their skills and transfer them to the street.

We aren’t just teaching mechanics; we are building the human capacity to perform under life-threatening stress. Being a “Professional Problem Creator” means purposefully designing training that forces the brain to recognize, adapt, and solve complex problems in real-time.

I’m already integrating these “On Purpose, By Design” frameworks into our upcoming Think Fast. Fight Faster. cohorts to ensure we are pushing our students to their optimal challenge points.

Come “allievo di Arti Marziali, ho impiegato “solo” 28 anni di pratica perenne, prima di passare ad istruirmi, in un altro settore come quello delle Armi da fuoco.

Il “perché” l’ho ritenuto un passaggio obbligato, Marzialmente parlando.

Prima di allora, non mi sentivo ancora pronto ad addentrarmi e specializzarmi in un altro Mondo, dato che ero ancora molto occupato a “comprendere” quello che già conoscevo.

Come “allievo professionista” invece, nel Mestiere delle Armi, sono affamato di sapere, e per questo inseguo, ascolto e metto in pratica da sempre le parole di chi sa MOLTO più di Me.

Prendo ciò che mi “rimane addosso” quando mi immergo da vari Istruttori e Esperti del campo e lo incorporo nel mio modus operandi.

Grazie al primo incontro con Master @albertogallazzi ho avuto modo di conoscere il Metodo C.A.R. (Center Axis Relock), e sin da subito il mio corpo ha potuto apprezzare le sue attinenze “Marziali” incorporando i principi del sistema senza troppi sforzi, dove le biomeccaniche sono simili in molte forme di Combattimento e i fondamentali offrono ampia stabilità e controllo di usare la propria arma da fuoco quasi come un’estensione del corpo.

Questa configurazione offre una ritenzione senza pari e riducendo il rischio di disarmo da parte di un avversario, si é liberi di bloccare, colpire o assistere nella gestione dell’arma, mentre l’uso del peso corporeo naturale migliora sia i movimenti difensivi che offensivi.

Comunemente associata ai film di John Wick, la Center Axis Relock è stato sviluppata da Paul Castle, che ha addestrato unità d’élite negli Stati Uniti, nel Regno Unito e in Europa, come tecnica a distanza ravvicinata.

Dopo la scomparsa di Castle nel 2011, @jeff_johnsgaard si è assunto la responsabilità di promuovere e perfezionare il sistema CAR, non solo preservandone i principi fondamentali, ma anche ampliando il suo quadro didattico. Sotto la guida di Jeff, il sistema si è evoluto nel programma 360° Close Quarter Defense (CQD), che incorpora sia le armi da fuoco che le abilità fisiche, insieme a tecniche di insegnamento innovative progettate per migliorare l’apprendimento e la memorizzazione.

Incontrare Master @albertogallazzi è stato per me indubbiamente uno di questi ultimi, un incontro svolta, di quelli che possono condurre verso mete positivamente imprevedibili, assolutamente inconcepibili al pensiero precedente.

Grazie a lui ho potuto incrociare sulla mia Via @jeff_johnsgaard che è stata pura magia, e non solo perché ho potuto incontrare l’unica persona al Mondo a portare avanti il Sistema C.A.R. (Center Axis Relock) del compianto Paul Castle, un metodo di tiro tattico progettato per scontri ravvicinati, che enfatizza la ritenzione dell’arma, la velocità e la precisione dell’arma.

Nel 2009, Paul Castle, nominò Jeff Johnsgaard suo successore ufficiale per portare avanti il sistema. Dopo la scomparsa di Castle nel 2011, Jeff si assunse la responsabilità di far progredire e perfezionare il sistema C.A.R., non solo preservandone i principi fondamentali, ma anche ampliandone il quadro didattico. Sotto la guida di Jeff, il sistema si è evoluto nel programma 360° Close Quarter Defense (CQD), che integra sia le armi da fuoco che le abilità fisiche, insieme a tecniche di insegnamento innovative progettate per migliorare l’apprendimento e il realismo situazionale.

Ma quello che più vorrei evidenziare di queste due persone è la loro incredibile generosità d’insegnamento, attraverso la quale si struttura come solido punto di riferimento per gli altri, ad aprire la mente e ad interconnettere i concetti multidisciplinari.

Perché, come spesso amano rimarcare, la conoscenza va condivisa.

Ed è proprio vero che solo grazie a tale condivisione possiamo aumentare la nostra consapevolezza e dunque migliorare la nostra Conoscenza e la mentalità operativa.

Proprio quella che sta tanto a cuore al Master @albertogallazzi, l’ONSET MINDSET, “eveywhere”.
