Being on the ground with programs now that are fully locked in and respect sports culture makes the contrast hit heavy. Seeing how real leadership operates just underscores a frustrating truth: my alma mater simply didn’t take sports seriously.

Once key leadership left the program, the institution let the history we made sit in silence. Last year was the 10-year anniversary of bringing our first championship to the school, and the building stayed completely quiet. No budget, no acknowledgment.

But it taught me a valuable lesson about legacy. The institution is just the venue—they only value what you can do on the clock. The 4 national titles, the history, and the brotherhood we built? That’s the real trophy, and they can’t erase that.

Shoutout to my guys from those squads out here still thriving and doing big things. We keep the history alive. 🏁🤞🏾

Leo and Chris I can’t find yall gram lol if you see this.

We would like to introduce Jeff Mejia to the Power Sircle family. Here’s a little background on him.

Jeff Mejia is a former player and coach of the Berkeley College Men’s Basketball program. Jeff played a total of 88 games in four seasons (2013-2017) as a Berkeley Knight and was a member of four USCAA Men’s Division II national championship teams from 2015-2018. In his senior year, Jeff started in 28 of Berkeley’s 29 games, averaging 19 minutes per game while shooting nearly 44% from the field and dishing almost three assists per game, all career highs. Jeff consistently played each game with a high level of intensity while demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities on the court, earning him the distinction of being named team captain for three of his four seasons. From 2017-2019, Jeff’s responsibilities as an Assistant Coach included running team practice warmups, guard drills, film review, and scouting reports.

Additionally, Jeff excelled in the classroom maintaining a GPA over 3.0 for his entire four years. His excellence off the court has earned Jeff several media acclaims, including radio and television interviews with WBGO, The New York Times, and WCBS Channel 2. Jeff is a 2013 graduate of the Manhattan Center for Science and Math where he was a member of the 2013 Borough of Manhattan boys’ basketball PSAL championship titles.

Jeff currently works as an Account Strategist at ForceBrands, a recruiting agency specializing in the consumer product industry. Always a firm believer in giving back to his community, Jeff also volunteers as a youth basketball coach and mentor for an organization called MBCY which serves inner city youth who reside in the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods of Upper Manhattan.

Jeff recently finished his MBA program at Berkeley College and hopes to continue developing a professional career in business. He lives in the Bronx, New York.

“You will never ever be successful, until you turn your pain into greatness, until you allow your pain to push you from where you are to push you to where you need to be. Stop running from your pain and embrace your pain. Your pain is going to be a part of your prize, a part of your product. I challenge you to push yourself.” – Eric Thomas
