It's National Astronaut Day! 🧑‍🚀

(AKA on this day in 1961 the United States had its first human spaceflight!)

There has been a lot of cool space stuff happening lately (Artemis! Project Hail Mary movie!) and I've been trying to mirror that with some of the books I've been reading.

This is a mix of read, TBR, and my current read, Gemini (which, fun fact, is supposed to be pronounced with a long E at the end - who knew?)

BOOKS:
🧑‍🚀 Challenger - nonfiction TBR
🧑‍🚀 Gemini - nonfiction current 🎧
🧑‍🚀 Celestial Lights - fiction TBR
🧑‍🚀 Project Hail Mary - fiction 5+⭐
🧑‍🚀 An Infinite Love Story (not pictured) - fiction TBR

Thank you to @stmartinspress @henryholtbooks @berkleyromance for the gifted copies!

Did you ever want to be an astronaut when you were a kid?

Which books are also in the NPHS Library? Ok, but seriously, this month showed me, aesthetically, I should finish only 8 books a month . Thank you to @the.storygraph for the monthly visual summary, to @librofm for letting me support my local bookstore (@solsticebookshop ) , and to @libby.app for all the freebies I get from @fnsbpubliclibraries #librarylife

Are you all as obsessed with the Artemis mission as we are? We’re so happy to hear that the astronauts aboard splashed down safely. Here are some great space reads to enjoy!

Disney College Program 2025 🏰✨
•
I have completed my second DCP working at Disney World and it was magical. I worked at the Yacht & Beach Club and Boardwalk Resorts. I made so many memories with old & new friends and my family. I got to work in all four parks and every resort in Disney World. I met so many of my favorite characters. I went to some cast previews. I enjoyed the parks in the fall and holiday seasons. I even went to many fun flamingo events. It was a great six months that I’ll never forget.

Humans are going back to the freaking Moon! 🌙

I can hardly contain my excitement. Moon missions have been a huge part of my career for the past 18 years when I answered an ad in the Hollywood reporter magazine to work for Apollo 11 Moonwalker Buzz Aldrin and astronauts took over my life.

This was not the plan for my life. However, it led me to my purpose of inspiring people through the awe and wonder of space exploration. I’m on a permanent spacewalk and my mission of connecting the space curious to the space serious and sharing the ways space benefits life on Earth is how I will continue to devote my time.

I truly hope that the Artemis missions will unite the world in a way that the Apollo missions did. Just like 53 years ago, the world is in a tough place and could use some serious inspiration to remind us that we’re all humans on the same planet.

I’m so grateful to be able to rub elbows and share time with both Apollo and Artemis astronauts and call them my friends. Thank you to Buzz, Charlie Duke, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and so many other Apollo guys for welcoming me into your world. And to the Artemis II Crew for taking us back to the Moon.

Let’s go! 🚀🌙✨💪🏻

I wanted to share some bookmail I received last fall- I had tried to schedule this post awhile back, but realized it never went through!

The Gemini program came before we ever landed on the moon, but was considered the program that led us there. It was the program that almost wasn't admist budget cuts during the Vietnam War, but it stayed and was a big part of our history in space. This book details more about the program that most of us don't know, since the before isn't as well renowned as the moon landing itself.

I'd like to thank both St. Martin's Press and Jeffrey Kluger for my free advanced reader copy.

My husband is dying to get his hands on this, since he is really into space. Do you like to lend your books out?

Goodbye 2025 and hello 2026!
•
This year was so great and filled many fun adventures, amazing opportunities, accomplishments, lots of good theater, traveling, concerts, Disney, family & friends. My top highlights are the in depth tour of the New Amsterdam Theater, going to my first Broadway opening night party for Real Women Have Curves, graduating college, seeing Jodie benson sing in front of me, seeing the muppets in person & ending my job at Aladdin to do my second DCP in Disney World. Thank you to everyone who has made this year amazing!
