A new premium release from Heaven Hill is always a cause for celebration.

With the success rate of these Parker’s Heritage releases being so high, I’m really excited to try it and grateful to everyone at Double H for sending this one along.

I’ll definitely have to consider this one when it comes time for the Uproxx Best Bourbons of the Year list!

FIRST LOOK: Parker’s Heritage Collection 20th Edition⁣
⁣
The 20th Edition of Parker’s Heritage Collection is a 14-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon made with rye backset—a favorite production technique of Heaven Hill’s legendary late master distiller Parker Beam.⁣
⁣
This milestone edition of the series is reflective and takes a more traditional whiskey-making approach while staying true to the range’s experimental nature.⁣
⁣
It’s also a chance for a fun teaching moment.⁣
⁣
Backset is the liquid after distillation that is incorporated into a subsequent mash. As a critical component of the sour mash process, it helps regulate fermentation conditions, stabilize pH levels, promote consistency and create a favorable environment for yeast.⁣
⁣
Heaven Hill periodically produces rye whiskey for several consecutive days. When the distillery transitions back to its traditional bourbon recipe, the backset available comes from the previous rye production. ⁣
⁣
This is the case for PHC 20. Some of my tasting notes include:⁣
⁣⁣
⚫️ Nose: Cooked oats, lemon oil, vanilla wafer, allspice dram, walnut⁣
⚫️ Palate: Rich toffee sweetness, roasted peanuts, clove, nutmeg, white fig, pepper⁣
⚫️ Finish: Dry oak, a hint of rye spice, raisin, peanut brittle, butter toffee ice cream⁣

BourbonWomen’s 15th annual Siposium was the best yet! I was honored to lead a Sip’n’Study seminar on Saturday morning pairing panels-in-progress from our webcomic #americaschosenspirit with select pours from @heavenhilldistillery, @bluegrassdistillers , @freshbourbon and @newriff . I loved sharing stories, sips, and so many hugs with all the bourbon women (and even a few bourbon men) who were in the mix! Thanks to @bourbon_beth and the generosity of the good folks at the @wildernesstraildistillery booth I even got to try my very sips of Malört (note the face squishing and observations of bitterness😬🤣!) which just goes to show you never know who or what you’ll encounter at Sip but it will surely make an impression! Loved getting to hang out and belly laugh with @cocktail_contessa @bourbonerin @barbelle_lou @biobourbonbarbie @theminty @ynotluvlife @sherriemoorewhiskey @oldsherricarter @kymidouglas @jelisacc @thewhiskeyandcigarchic @thebourbongoddess @whiskeyshesips @jaz.distilled and so many other fabulous women who inspire me and bring such light to the whiskey space! Final day of @bourbonwomen SIPosium for me as I was flying out the next day. Day 4 started bright and early with breakfast then straight into a seminar with @highproofprof where I ran into some of my 2024 SIP Scholars sisters @akyradd @texas_hula @jelisacc 🥃 lunch with @heavenhilldistillery and the best and biggest slice of cheesecake I’ve ever had! 🍰 I opted for the @wildernesstraildistillery at the nearby Oxmoor Farm. Super informative talk with the founder, Dr. Pat Heist. I was glad the farm was close to the hotel so we got some time at the @makersmark gallery. I love my hand-calligraphered label! Then we enjoyed Bar-a-Rama with amazing food from @marriottlouisvilleeast … seriously, check them out for Thanksgiving as that turkey carving station was clutch! The meat was so juicy! The night ended with a PJ party! @kitchycooker and I rocked our CALIFORNIA SIPUBLIC shirts teehee! What a perfect SIP celebrating 15 years of Bourbon Women! I left with a tired but happy heart. I’m ready for more local SoCal events and already planning for 2027!@bourbonwomencali 🥃 #bourbonwomen #bourbonwomencali

Day 3 @bourbonwomen SIPosium! The day started with breakfast that included @angelsenvy cocktail and a taste of a new expression. I continued the AE train by checking out their seminar with master distiller @oven_mitten 🥃 We got to taste many not released yet. Yum! Then a good lunch before heading to my excursion @bardstownbourbonco 🥃 Loved the black Manhattan variation and welcome with Steve Nally. Then we headed to the rickhouse for a thieving experience with @jaz.distilled 🥃 I also really loved the Paper Plane Jell-O shots! More yum! The night was capped off at Churchill Downs with @woodfordreserve 🥃 Those who know me know I love love love the derby! I didn’t bring a giant hat with me but the mini one worked well. My love of horses, bourbon, fashion came together for a magical night! #bourbonwomen #bourbonwomencali

Barton 1792 just made history with the OLDEST bourbon they’ve ever released and their first-ever cask-strength bourbon, with @1792bourbon XV.

15 years and 124.2 proof. Let’s see how it tastes!

Both of these bottles really impressed me, with 1792 XV becoming my new favorite in the lineup, while 1792 Rye has a bit more zip & character compared to other offerings in its price range.

This just signals to me that Sazerac has an increasing stock of well-aged bourbon, and they’re listening to rye fans who want more affordable options. Are you going to try and buy either of these?
