POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

BEYOND THE WORK, THERE WERE PEOPLE

Not every PLAC memory happened in a committee room.
Not every lesson came from a plenary session, a policy discussion or a legislative document.

Some of my favourite moments came in between.
The laughter.
The random conversations.
The pictures.
The jokes.
The friendships.
The moments when we simply forgot about deadlines and enjoyed being young people sharing an unforgettable experience.

These pictures were taken behind the scenes, but they tell an important part of my PLAC Legislative Internship story.

We came from different backgrounds, different states, different disciplines and different perspectives, but somehow, this programme brought us together as one cohort.

And somewhere between the orientations, committee assignments, bi-weekly meetings, National Assembly activities, presentations and everything in between, colleagues became friends and an internship became a community.

Looking back, I realise that an experience like this is not measured only by the things written on a CV.
It is also measured by the people you meet, the conversations you have, the memories you create and the relationships that continue long after the programme ends.

These moments may look like just pictures.
For me, they are evidence of a journey that was much bigger than the work.

A reminder that while we were learning about leadership, governance, representation and public service, we were also building something less formal but equally valuable: Community.

Because sometimes, the best part of the journey isn’t just where you are going.
It is the people you meet along the way.

BEYOND THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY: A VISIT TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

The PLAC Legislative Internship kept reminding me that governance does not happen within the walls of Parliament alone.

One experience that brought this home was our visit to the European Union Delegation in Nigeria @euinnigeria as the 2026 PLAC Legislative Internship cohort.

This time, the conversation moved beyond legislative procedure and committee work into diplomacy, international relations, democratic development and development cooperation.

We had an engaging session with EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot, who shared perspectives on the EU-Nigeria partnership and the role of the European Union in supporting Nigeria’s development priorities.

The discussions touched on issues that directly connect with my growing interest in policy:

Democratic governance. Youth inclusion. Trade and investment. Women’s political participation. Healthcare financing. Humanitarian assistance. Opportunities for young people.

And we didn’t just listen.

The interns actively participated, asking questions and engaging in meaningful conversations about Nigeria’s development and its relationship with the European Union.

For me, this was particularly significant.

As someone pursuing Policy Analysis, it was another opportunity to see that public policy extends beyond legislation. Policies are shaped by institutions, partnerships, diplomacy, development priorities and, most importantly, the realities of citizens.

From the Committee Room to the National Assembly, and now to the EU Delegation, my understanding of governance was becoming broader.

I was learning to look at governance not from one institution, but from the connections between them.

Another room. Another perspective. Another lesson.

Next: More lessons, more rooms, and more stories from the PLAC Legislative Internship.

A throwback to one of our major projects in Adamawa State where we renovated and refurbished dilapidated classrooms at Jambutu Primary School.
.
This project taught my team and I lessons that I don’t think we will forget even if we wanted to.😅.
.
At the end of the day, all that matters is that our kids can receive lessons in a safe and conducive environment.💙
