I cannot believe that I am writing this right now, but today I am officially 10 YEARS OFF CANCER TREATMENT!!! YAYAYAYAY!!!

As many of you know, when I was 8 years old, I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and underwent two and a half years of cancer treatment. I cannot express how blessed I feel to be here, 10 years later, alive and healthy. While 10 years is a long time, childhood cancer is a cause that I will be passionate about until it no longer exists. With that, I would like to leave yall with a couple of things

#1: Childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease in children. Worldwide, around 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. More than 60% of childhood cancer survivors develop one or more chronic health conditions in their lifetime. In short, any child who is diagnosed with cancer is faced with fighting the disease itself, and if they survive, likely having to deal with continuous health challenges throughout the rest of their life.

#2: Childhood cancer is continuously underfunded by the federal government. Only about 4% of federal research funding goes towards childhood cancer. There are many types of cancer that fall under the term “childhood cancer”, meaning that the small budget allocated to childhood cancer has to cover every kind of childhood cancer combined. Children fighting cancer deserve more; they deserve new treatments and more research.

#3: Lastly I’d like to challenge all of you today to take a minute and find joy in the incredible gift we received when we woke up this morning! How lucky are we to see what today will bring! So many children who have battled cancer have had the gift of life stolen from them, so we should be sure to appreciate that we get to be here experiencing it.

Again, I feel so blessed beyond measure to be here today, and hope to honor those who are not and those who are still fighting by continuing to find joy in every aspect of my life! YAY FOR 10 YEARS!! GOD IS SO GOOD!! 🎗️🎗️
