[Making friends as an adult: hiking edition]

It’s hard making friends as an adult, so here’s a trick I used during my Tour du Mont Blanc hike.

I had a very wise man tell me on day 3 of my hike to ‘give a little more, take a little less… in everything. Life, business and love’.

So, it got me thinking; how could I give more to others on trail?

I decided to use my @lumix camera and offer people photoshoots; we’d stop somewhere, start taking photos and then they’d give me their contact information to send the photos to later.

It felt so vulnerable at first, but the reaction was incredibly positive. People loved the photos and it made me feel good to give something back to them, as well.

I also realised what a great way it was to organically connect with people. Not only was it a conversation starter, but the offer built rapport and created a means for me to keep in contact with them.

From this little hack, I’ve got a 5 person group chat going and a few other chats with people from the TBM. And I think it comes down to being vulnerable to start the conversation and having a means to keep it going.

Check out my video of Day 5 of the TMB for the full story!

And tell us below how you’re making connections as an adult.

Ran another 100K this weekend! Hard to describe these experiences but I suffered (a lot), had fun, and tested my limits for over 10 hours. Really proud to sneak into the top ten men and qualify for @utmbmontblanc - I’m going to Chamonix! 🇫🇷🇮🇹🇨🇭

Thankful as always to the folks supporting me, the many people I’ve trained with, the other racers, and the whole community that makes these events possible. It’s a privilege to even attempt such challenges and so satisfying to finish them. Feeling grateful and ready for some rest!
