Thank you to everyone who congratulated me yesterday on completing my Master’s! I truly couldn’t have reached this milestone without the incredible support of my family, friends, and the York University community. This past year was one of the most challenging, fast-paced, and transformative times of my life. Nothing came easy, but the pressure allowed me to develop my practice which broadened my capacity as an artist. Pursuing an MFA has taught me how to gain a deeper understanding of my practice while staying rooted in community. As an artist creating work around diaspora, I used to treat the feeling of "in-betweenness" as synonymous with working solely through my own isolated lens. But working alongside my peers and professors revealed a powerful, growing network of artists supported by ancestral resilience. There are so many of us here and our community continues to grow. We have powerful voices and strong support systems built from those who walked before us. So I complete this journey with a renewed goal: to stay connected, build visibility, and ensure no artist feels like they have to create alone. That being said, this achievement belongs to all of us! Still reeling from an incredible few days in Montreal at @uaacaauc 2026. “Unfortunately, It Was Paradise” began as a session proposal inspired by the ways my research has been inspired by Mahmoud Darwish’s poetic ability to articulate the longing of exile and displacement. Clearly, I’m not alone in finding resonance in his poetic imagination. The overwhelming response grew into two panels featuring brilliant artists, curators, and thinkers whose insights moved me to tears, sparked laughter, and left me with so much to reflect on. I’m so deeply grateful to everyone who shared their work, experiences, and ideas with such generosity. COOPER COLE, Toronto will be participating in Post-Fair Paris with a two-person presentation of works by Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill and Jenine Marsh at booth 4, 74 Rue du Temple. This presentation considers material transformation, care, and the fragile systems that shape everyday life. Hill’s labour-intensive Spells combine found ephemera with tobacco-infused paper to evoke memory, resilience, and the poetics of the ordinary. Marsh’s preserved flower sculptures explore touch, mortality, and intimacy, revealing beauty and vulnerability within conditions of value and exchange. Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill (b. 1979, Comox, British Columbia, Canada) is an artist and writer. Hill’s sculptural practice explores the history of found materials to enquire into concepts of land, property, and economy. Often, her projects emerge from an interest in capitalism as an imposed, impermanent, and vulnerable system, as well as in alternative economic modes. Her works have used found and readily-sourced materials to address concepts such as private property, exchange, and black-market economies. Jenine Marsh (b. 1984, Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is an artist who uses sculpture and installation to explore themes of agency, mortality and value. Coins as well as other paraphernalia of exchange and contact, such as casts of hands, purses and flowers, are manipulated through serialized processes of destruction and transformation to cultivate illicit and intimate responses to the shared conditions of end-stage capitalism. It's the last weekend of our spring exhibitions... ⛲ Jenine Marsh: new wishes. Centring on a 26-metre-wide concrete fountain, the exhibition invites us to reflect on rituals of wishing and consumption imposed by capitalism. 🌿 Sayan Chanda: How Many Fires, How Many Suns, How Many Dawns? By reimagining Bonbibi, a forest goddess from the Sundarbans, as a woven textile figure, audiences are invited to reflect on their connection to the natural world.
