Go behind the scenes with the costumes and set for Opera Orlando's original production of MADAME BUTTERFLY - October 2, 3, and 4 at Dr Phillips Center. 🎭🎭🎭

Many thanks to all who attended our SHOP HAPPY HOUR!! We can't wait to see it all come together for opening night NEXT WEEK!

From the Humming Chorus to Un Bel Di - Puccini's MADAME BUTTERFLY has it all. Making her Opera Orlando debut, soprano Yeawon Jun is Cio-Cio San with a voice that exudes joy and tragedy like no other. Purchase tickets now at link in bio.

Opera Orlando presents the enduring story of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. The story of a young Cio-Cio San navigating an impossible intersection of imperialism, infatuation, and maternal instinct. She is newly married to an American naval officer who then immediately heads back to the States. She is certain he will return to her and waits three years to find out if she is right. Cio-Cio San's devotion and selflessness remain constant as she leverages her limited power to protect her child.

Enjoy Puccini’s glorious music at the world-renowned Steinmetz Hall and see the opera that served as the inspiration for the hit Broadway musical Miss Saigon. Soprano Yeawon Jun makes her Opera Orlando debut in the title role, joined by tenor Isaac Hurtado singing the role of Lt. Pinkerton, a role for which his “passionate intensity” has been praised. Conductor Kalena Bovell and stage director Rebecca A. Herman make their Company debuts leading an exquisite cast featuring the Opera Orlando Youth Company, Apprentice and Studio Artists, and Chorus on stage with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit.

Our #ProductionSpotlight today for THE MERRY WIDOW focuses on the "la belle époque" set design and costume design for our original production of this classic operetta. Enjoy inspiration images and sketches from our set designer GRANT PREISSER and our costume designer JEN J. MADISON.👯‍♀️👡🏛

Grant also serves as our stage director for this production and is of course well known to Orlando audiences as Opera Orlando's artistic director for the past 6 seasons. He has actually been involved with Opera Orlando as the set designer and graphic designer from the Company's start 10 years ago. Happy 10th Anniversary to him!!! Learn more about Grant's amazing resume and experience from Hong Kong to Chicago on our Facebook page.

Jen has designed several productions for Opera Orlando including LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, CENDRILLON, and LA BOHEME just this season. She also works all over the country and has been praised for her original designs many which she builds herself by hand from scratch. Learn more about Jen on our Facebook page.

AND see the set and costumes come together at our SHOP HAPPY HOUR next Tuesday at 6pm. Did we mention the shop tour is FREE and includes DRINKS + FOOD!!! Yum!!! Nothing like sawdust and wine folks. 🤣🍷🍤

The time is finally here. Tomorrow we open Tosca with @operaorlando a story about two lovers split by the violent and tyrannical pursuits of a villain intent on destroying the very society they live in. Can Tosca and Scarpia discover their love and escape alive before the turncoat Cavaradossi betrays them to the invading bloodthirsty Napoleonic forces? Or will his betrayal of country and people cause a rift between the two lovers that can never be mended?

-------------

....Ok maybe you all have a different view on how the story goes. But you all need to come see this fantastic production with some of the best singers from around the world. Beautiful sets, costumes, and singing all in collaboration with the @orlandophilorch who sound AMAZING in the new Steinmetz Hall at the @drphillipsctr
