Two years ago today, my life, and my body, were permanently changed…forever…

Two years ago today, they removed the cancer from my body…

Two years ago today I said goodbye to a part of my body that I never realized I would miss so much…

I have spent almost 2 years loathing my body. Not recognizing myself.

Losing my boobs, I lost a part of my soul.
I could not stand to look in the mirror. I spent way too many days mortified for my husband to see my new body… everything was different. Intimacy was terrifying to me.

I couldn’t even show up to work in the same way—I almost quit teaching and doing hair all together.

A part of me left with my boobs…my girls… my womanhood.

But God.

I learned that He is a redeemer and He will make Beauty from ashes… if we let Him.

This moment was one of the most vulnerable, terrifying, emotional… healing moments of my life.

I never realized what depression was until I actually went through it myself. And man—I went through it. I learned the hard way that you can not have true compassion for someone or what they’re going through until you’ve actually experienced it yourself.

These pictures. This photo shoot. This moment—I took my life back.

Getting cancer rocked my world… and everyone’s around me.

But I understand now that God sometimes will trust us to go through uncertain times…trust us to praise Him through a sickness or disease…

Trust us to use our big mouth to scream from the mountaintops to CHECK YOUR BOOBS!!!

I found the lump in my breast… I was told a mammogram would not have found it because it was so small and because of the dense tissue I had. So please… check your boobs.

Thank you @laurenwoodphotos for capturing this moment and to @jenlopezdesign for so selflessly opening at your home for us —and for supporting me with your entire heart to take these pictures and finally help me learn to love me again.
