Twenty-five years later, I still remember September 11, 2001 so clearly. I grew up outside of Albany and came to New York City to study fashion at FIT. At the beginning of every semester, I would step off Amtrak, walk up onto Seventh Avenue (Fashion Ave) and immediately feel the heartbeat of the city. I would move back into my dorm, walk across the street to class and feel so lucky that this was where I got to build my life.

I had my internships here. I spent over a decade designing at Tommy Hilfiger. I built my career—and eventually BRIDMERCH——here. I also met some of my very best friends here.

People always ask me if I think I’ll live in New York City forever. And honestly, I think the answer is yes. Why wouldn’t I? I love the culture. I love Central Park, the restaurants and the food. I love that there is so much inspiration here. I love meeting new people and the fast pace of work and play. That energy, possibility and resilience are what this city is all about.

Before FIT, when I was at Oneonta, the last song they would play at the bar was always “New York, New York.” The idea that if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere stayed with me—and it still feels true.

Today, the love I feel for New York is inseparable from remembrance. We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed and the heroes who showed extraordinary courage. We honor their memory and the strength of the city we love so deeply.

New York, always. Never forgotten. 🤍
