At 20, I had no idea what becoming a woman would truly entail.

After having my first baby, I was met with postpartum depression.I felt alone. I felt isolated. I didn’t know how to survive it.

But I learned something: no woman should have to navigate this without support.

Our medical system was built on men’s health.

Women have been understudied, under-researched, and under-treated — for generations.

Our bodies are not the same. Our experiences are not the same.

That’s why @bcwomensfdn matters so deeply to me.

I helped build a milk bank

I helped support women’s mental health programming.

I helped improve complex menopause care.

And there is still so much more to do

I show up for BC Women’s because it aligns with everything I believe.

The woman. The matriarch. The mother. She is the heartbeat of our families — and of society.

Glow Gala

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the BC Women’s Health Foundation — and what an unforgettable milestone it was. Together, we raised funds to build a nursery in the mental health unit at BC Women’s Hospital — the first of its kind in North America.

Thank you to the tireless staff, faculty, and researchers at @bcwomensfdn who make a critical impact on women’s health every single day — not just here in BC, but globally — through groundbreaking research and health policy.

Deep gratitude to our past chair, @drmonicali and to our committee of steadfast champions for women’s health who continue to inspire progress.

And personally, thank you to my friends and family who attended — and to those who flew in from across Canada and the U.S. — to support me in sharing my story of postpartum recovery.

I will never forget this evening.

“We gather tonight in celebrating 30 years of the BC Women’s Health Foundation. As Past Chair for these last two years, committee member since 2019, and a current Board member, I’ve witnessed first-hand the extraordinary impact of the Foundation and Glow Gala as we shape the future of women’s health in our province, and beyond.

Together, we have funded the breast milk bank, expanded life-saving care for fragile newborns in the NICU, advanced menopause resources, and improved access to the specialized care women deserve.

These are trailblazing milestones that set BC Women’s apart, not just in British Columbia, but across Canada. And they are a testament not only to the vision of those who established the Foundation and Glow, but also to each of you who continue to support it today.

We are also deeply grateful to the sponsors who make Glow shine so brightly. Many have stood alongside us year after year, helping to build the foundation for what comes next.”

What’s next as the focus of this weekend is the building of the first perinatal mental health stabilization unit in North America.

We pay it forward by giving back. It is this shared belief - that women’s health is the foundation of strong families and communities - where hope, vision and change is born.

I feel so hopeful after our week swimming around Isla Espiritu Santo, a protected island in Baja. We all witnessed an invigoration in nature, full coral reefs, whales, dolphins, rays, fish, birds, eels…and a lot of bees.
