Officially FREE of my Notes app on my phone, and I’ve never been happier!

Here’s exactly how and what I moved off my phone and into my tri-fold journal from @jennibick. This goes with me everywhere and I love the organization and the creativity that comes with using it.

Journals inside:

Florida Field Guide
Content Planning
Content Drafting
Good Things are Always Happening
Curio Cabinet.

I’ll do a deep dive on my Curio Cabinet notebook in another video because this is the gem! Every random tidbit goes in here: books I want to read, seasonal menus for cooking dinner at home, topics I want to research, favorite words, writing inspo for my first novel, etc. So, it deserves its own time in the limelight.

Comment “Curio” if you want a part 2 of everything I moved from my Notes app to my notebook.

It was a beautiful day for drawing in Dupont Circle with the @urbansketchersdc group. This circle, its park, and its fountain are iconic parts of DC, where everyone can find a place to sit, thanks to abundant benches lining the central plaza and the outer ring, plus recent additions of movable Adirondack chairs, waiting to be lugged to a preferred spot.

I was super excited the group was going to this location and I was eager to draw. I got there a little early and started with a quick section from the road through the fountain. The layering of canopy trees provides excellent shade, and a low evergreen hedge gives an additional layer of separation when in the middle of the circle.

The fountain, designed by Henry Bacon, commemorates Rear Admiral Samuel Francis Du Pont. It features three figures sculpted by Daniel Chester French, representing the Sea (holding a ship), the Wind (holding a conch), and the Stars (holding a globe). They are set in recesses wrapping around the pedestal that supports the fountain’s bowl, rewarding the viewer who walks around the plaza. Fun fact: both Bacon and French were also behind the Lincoln Memorial.

Water pours down between them into the larger basin below, breaking up when caught in the wind. The drawing on images 7 & 8 shows my try at unwrapping the fountain in a section elevation.

The circle was part of the original 1791 L’Enfant Plan, but largely unimproved until after the Civil War. Once the neighborhood started to develop around what was then known as the Pacific Circle, trees were planted in 1867, and more substantial development began 1871. In 1882 it was dedicated to and renamed for Du Pont. Its first memorial was a bronze statue set in a Victorian Garden (very different vibes).

The DuPont family later proposed to fund a replacement monument, which was authorized by Congress in 1917, the fountain we see today was dedicated in 1921.

Also I finished my other A3 @moleskine recently! Was happy I could pick up another from one of my favorite stores @jennibick, also in Dupont. I really love this large format for sketching.

I DO NOT want you to make your pages like mine. No matter if you consider yourself a functional or decorative planner, I do not want you to make pages like this.

Unless, of course, daily Hobonichi pages work for you. And, of course, this layout makes sense to you. I want you to think (really think) about what your brain responds to and needs. I want you to do that. *my* ADHD brain responds to novelty (stickers! pretty fountain pen ink!), getting everything on the page and space so I don’t run out, even if I don’t *technically* need all of this room. Will this work forever? No idea. And I don’t need to think about that.
