Well…first race since I’ve started training on a regular basis again. Lots of room for improvement, but it’s a start and just good be back in the swing of things again. It’s all up from here.

Also…I was thanking my lucky stars that I did NOT have to do the half marathon distance today! LOL! It’s great to have options! 😂

Yesterday’s training did NOT go to plan.

It actually started out great…2 hours on the bike with race-pace efforts, then straight into what was supposed to be a 10-mile run with some hard intervals.

But something was off (likely too much sodium). My stomach was not happy, I struggled through 7.26 miles and finally called it. Emi came and picked me up. And I felt pretty defeated.

After talking it through with my coach @jentemperley, we switched things up. Instead of my long ride today, I’d run again and give myself a chance to reset.

If you’ve been here awhile, you know I have this weird thing about calling myself a runner.

I’ve done 9 Ironmans, which means I’ve also run 9 marathons but for some reason, I’ve never really believed I’m a “runner.”

Even at Ragnar a few weeks ago, I was surrounded by runners. I ran every one of my loops, felt strong in some pretty tough conditions…and still somehow saw them as the runners.

Yesterday after my not-so-great run, I drove out to Discovery Bay to show property…to another Ironman athlete and fellow Betty, of course…and started listening to @keiradamato’s book “Don’t Call It a Comeback”.

I love how candid she is about her experiences. But what really stuck with me was how she talked about herself—and others—as runners.

So this morning I headed out thinking I’d run 5 miles.

And I ran 10.

Ten really solid miles. I found another gear when I needed it, and more importantly, I made myself proud.

“Dynamite” may have been playing on repeat in my head, but the cheers, honks and encouragement from my neighbors helped too—including this perfectly timed WOOHOO caught on video (thanks @ducatisti6719 who is one of the most badass runners I know).

And somewhere out there today, I realized maybe this is part of my WHY.

Yes, I keep doing Ironmans because I freaking love racing Ironmans.

But maybe I also keep showing up because I want to finally believe what 9 finish lines, 9 marathons, Ragnar—and a whole lot of miles have been trying to tell me all along.

I am a runner.

And maybe Ironman #10 is the one where I finally believe it. ❤️

It’s been kind of a rough summer with a few big life happenings after another. I’ve had a number of false starts, to say the least. But, I *think* life is finally turning a corner, and it’s time to buckle down and focus on getting back to my usual things. 🤞🏻

Anyhow, here’s hoping for a REAL comeback to my fitness this time. In the meantime, I’ve got my @bettydesigns gear to help me look the part! 😍

Sold 4 homes this week and rode 101 miles this morning. Then ran off the bike, pulled myself together and took @reggie.nicolay to dinner for his birthday.

Sure, I like naps and long walks on the beach. But I love my job and rewarding myself with time in the saddle. Ride it til the wheels fall off….whatever that means to you.
