The last six months have been like Andre 3000's new album. It was good but not what I was expecting or what I wanted.

So much of my mental energy is climbing centric, and I was so psyched after Africa to take my strength to the alpine and take down some life long goals. But a nagging finger 🤕 injury will not leave me alone. Recently I finally caved and went to a hand surgeon and got a steroid injection, and a surgery may be near in my future. Not what I had in mind for this fall. I wanted to peak but instead I am barely able to use my right hand.

In place of climbing, I have filled my time with other pursuits:
▪️Math: I revisited the world of Partial Differential Equations and Analysis for the first time in almost 9 years. The learning curve was steep, but I really feel like my mathematical understanding has been broadened 🧮
▪️Trying new things like swing dancing 🕺and running 🏃‍♂️
▪️Continuing to subsist in the trailer... Round 2 in Marshall has been a bit rough. Some key components of my system needed maintenance this year 👨‍🔧
▪️Trying to keep McCall out of too much trouble 😈. The big man is at war with the bees and their allies.

I wasn't the best to be around because climbing really functions as my main outlet, but luckily for me, I have a great support system including a great partner @paigewit, family and friends 🫶

Some core memories:
1: @pennelljackie and Jake's Wedding
2: McCall eating a mud wasp 🐝 nest. He couldn't open his eyes fully for a week +
3: Trailer Trash Bash: My 28th bday party with @jerclimbs @rummeletha and many more!
4: The Kenough Vibes with @addie.mccurdy and the rest of my math peeps
5: Skiing, maybe the closest thing to unadulterated fun imo
6/7: Learning even my bones are Thique. The hand surgeon literally freaked out when he saw my X-ray 🩻 So he scanned his finger (6) to compare with mine (7) to show me how dense and big my bones are compared to "regular" people 😅
8: Boiling Coors Banquet to thaw my frozen water system in the trailer... Perhaps the worst night in the trailer this szn 🥶
9: Hay bales for insulation
10: Paige coming down to the Marshall for a good weekend... Perhaps the best night in the trailer 🙌

Helluva Day circa 2019

Throwback to when I spent a wonderful summer raging in the alpine (mostly with @jerclimbs and @_jesswalker_ ). I still dream about these days! So much fun running around discovering new things about climbing and ourselves. @jacksontankersley helped throw an edit together of my best day that season where I climbed 'World Famous PowWow', 'Death Trout', and 'Tattooed Teardrops'.

It really was a Helluva Day! I remembered that leading up to it I was on what I subbed *the trout diet* which consisted of me eating red trout every dinner until I sent the rig 😅 Luckily I don't do that now, and to this day I'm a little over trout. I remember that I kept telling Jer, "I'm becoming the enemy" and I was only half kidding ... If you listen carefully I scream "I am the trout" 🐟 when I finally top the boulder. @cirque_bound probably thought I was a bonkers, and perhaps there is some truth in that sentiment. Well us climbers are a rare breed. In any case here is to new days, fewer 🚬 and better tactics.

The Craft

I remember when I bought this piece of trash back in 2019. @jerclimbs , @_jesswalker_ , @sstrutphoto and many more spent countless days dragging it around in it's original state and sleeping in the Poudre and other climbing areas. Truly living in the squalor...

This last April, I quit my job and renovated this trailer for ~ 2 months in preparation to live in it full time in Marshall, Colorado. I am currently doing grad school in nearby Boulder. I really enjoyed the process of turning a turd into something livable, and I haven't had the chance to work with my hands full time in almost half a decade. The experience was eye opening and rewarding.
