Kayaking through bioluminescence!

If you ever get a chance to kayak through bioluminescence, especially in clear kayaks… take it!

It will be an experience you won’t forget. It feels like you’re on another planet when every paddle stroke glows a brilliant blue.

Thank you to @getupandgokayaking for making trip happen. Year 6 was definitely a blast!

Filmed on my @sonyalpha a7SIII

I have never in my 10 years of seeing bioluminescence seen THIS many mullet going crazy at one time. Usually we’ll see a quick school of mullet that dissipate after about 15 seconds with less than a hundred fish. This had to have been 10,000+ mullet in the same area, every direction, for about 1,000 feet. Literally mind blowing how many there were. I left the audio on the clip so you can HEAR how many there were. We paddled back and forth for a few hours and this particular night we caught 9 mullet in our kayaks 😂😂 one of the coolest summers of bioluminescence in Florida ever 🤯🌌🙏

PART 1 • 🌌🎥

Six years of bioluminescence in Florida, filmed at night on the water in one of the best places in America to see it. Every glowing wave, comb jelly, and blue-green paddle trail in this video was captured in the wild at Haulover Canal inside the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and along the Indian River Lagoon on Florida’s Space Coast.

We run @getupandgotitusville and we’re one of only four companies permitted to run bioluminescent kayak tours at night inside the refuge. If you want to see this in person, our clear kayak bioluminescent tours launch here every summer!

When is the best time to see bioluminescence in Florida?
Peak season runs June through September, with the brightest glow usually in July and August on the darkest nights around the new moon.

Some of the clips here were filmed during our VIP Filmed Bioluminescent Experience, where we slow down and take the time to get shots like these.

All footage was shot on @sonyalpha cameras over six seasons on the water.

A huge thank you to the people who made these shots possible. None of this happens without them:
Patrick Coyne: @patrickc_la
Josh Gravley: @joshg_photos
David Diez: @daviddiez
Luca Martinez: @lucamartinez.fl

And to the crew who helped us film, and added to the adventure: @zachmahoney7 @lordblanealexander @jeremykade @jacob.woolf thank you for being part of the bioluminescence experience every season.

@josh_marquess @danny_rawley @carina_rawley @ttiamichelle -> thanks for helping out along the way also!!!

All wildlife, including the comb jellies, was handled within the regulations of our operating permit inside the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Music created in collaboration with ElevenLabs.

Nights like these I’ll never forget. I had a new fisheye lens that I really wanted to try with bioluminescence. We paddled around for a bit but the bio wasn’t too bright until we found this small bay area that had some super bright patches of bio. Jeremy and I paddled back and forth literally like 20 times just trying out the new lens and enjoying the bright bio. This was also suuuuper late in the season and it wasn’t typical for the bio to be that bright! That’s what makes filming bio so rewarding, some nights it doesn’t want to cooperate, and often times you’ve got to search in different places, but when it all aligns, you get some really freaking cool shots - like this!!!

The last week was insane with bioluminescence 🌌🌌 paddled around for many hours with @joshg_photos @patrickc_la and @jeremykade on the hunt for some bright bio, and we found some amazing things 👀 in my 9 years of seeing the bioluminescence i had never seen some of the cool stuff we saw this summer. I lost a DJI Action Pro 5 to the lagoon but it was worth it 😂😂 #BioBoys #SonyAlpha #bioluminescence

Very grateful to have been featured on the TODAY Show this morning! What a fun opportunity to paddle with @dylandreyernbc and chat about business, life, and some fun stories in between! I love creating memories and doing it in a way that is sustainable & impactful! It was so cool having my mom out there for the shoot and the others on my staff to help! Big shoutout to @visitorlando for the opportunity + @kingslandingfl for hosting our adventures at Rock Springs! As they say, it takes a village!! Very thankful!

Had fun filming the bio this past summer with @jeremykade 🤝 this bio was late in the summer season and only stayed this bright for a few days! Looking forward to the 2025 season in only 5-6 months!!
