Jeremy Scholar is pleased to present: Avigdor Arikha Interiors and Still Lifes, 1966–2009

Curated by Craig Burnett @c_n_burnett

“The exhibition aims to demonstrate that Arikha was an artist devoted to the wonders of everyday life – a devotion that allowed him to transform humble objects into timeless form. Already a successful painter of abstracts throughout the late 1950s and early 60s, Arikha had a life-changing visit to a Caravaggio exhibition at the Louvre in 1965. Deciding that direct observation was as urgent as any other modern art form, he turned to the people and things nearest to him for subject matter. From then on, he drew and painted only from life and always in natural light, completing works within a day through rapt sessions of deep attention”. Craig Burnett

The exhibition will take place from 24 September — 30 October, 2026

The harmonious asymmetry of Chardin, and Morandi, the methodical observation of Caravagio and the colour modulation of Cezanne, with the artist’s own blend of haunting memories.
Could it be more exquisite?

I'm delighted to be showing work in 'Moments of Being' at Jeremy Scholar Gallery. The exhibition brings together twenty-six artists who explore the body as site of exchange between artist and subject. I am showing a self-portrait pair, images taken almost 40 years ago. The plexi box-frames use my signature material - my past framed by my present.

The show traverses the last century, and it is very moving for me to exhibit alongside artists such as Gwen John (1876-1939) and Avigdor Arikha (1929-2010). This year, I'm excited by seeing my work in very different contexts, and this show is exemplary of this. Thanks for the opportunity, @jeremyscholar.
