Why is it so damn hard to find and *nurture* good girlfriends in midlife?

I hear this from women all the time. So let’s talk about it.

I’m sharing some stories about women I’ve met very recently (a few ways might surprise you), why you’ll never hear me say “I have enough friends,” and why I hold onto good girlfriend as fiercely as I would a spouse.

Because the great loves of our lives aren’t always romantic. ❤️

This was a hard one to write.

I’ve spent the last few weeks traveling across America, sitting with women who are breaking free — from cycles, expectations, patterns passed down through generations — and asking them what freedom actually means to them.

Turns out, this wasn’t just a freedom journey for them.

It was one for me, too.

A lot is coming up. Truths I pushed down. Stories I haven’t thought about in decades. Including one I finally tell in this week’s Unraveling.

This one’s about what we inherit, what we unknowingly repeat, and what happens when one woman finally decides: I will be the one to *break the cycle.*

We sang her favorite “Amazing Grace” mid-interview.
87 year old Marian has fought, bled and lived to tell the tale of being one of the first Black women in Alabama to get to vote.
And… to know her is to know she expects you to say THANK YOU to her.
Six years after interviewing her on CNN… I “bumped” into her at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis as she was humming this song.
The only way to explain this chance re-encounter is “God and Dr. King” — thats what Ms Marian says. And well, I believe just about everything this woman says.
I cannot wait to share her and her daughter @jerrihaslem with you soon.
These women deserve ALL the flowers. 💐

Week one of shooting AMERICA, tell me everything.

I dreamed this up years ago.
Carried it quietly. Fought for it. Believed in it even when no one else could see it yet.

And this week, it’s happening.

We’re on the road. Cameras rolling. Women talking. America, telling me everything.

Day 6 of 10 Days of Rest and Relaxation. I booked a much-needed facial with an amazing esthetician @chaneyestheticsbeauty who was recommended to me by my girl @jerrihaslem . I had an enzyme facial to put me on the right track and got some new products for a skin care regimen made for a woman of a particular age. Our skin is our largest external organ. Respect it as such. I followed up with lunch at my favorite Thai restaurant.
