WHERE GRATITUDE MEETS THE FIGHT AHEAD RAMBLE: It’s been just over a month since Allan Michael came home after 150 days detained, and we’ve been trying to give ourselves space to breathe, heal, reconnect with our family, our church, and our pups Sasha and Roscoe. But healing is complicated when every day the news is flooded with more fear, more cruelty, and more stories that pull us right back into the trauma we fought so hard to survive. I wanted to make this video to thank every single person who carried us through this nightmare with love, prayer, advocacy, and community. At the same time, I need to be honest that our joy exists alongside heartbreak for the countless families still suffering through detention and separation. I’m not a firm believer in the Bible, but I believe in the magic that can be drawn from it when voices like Rev. Amanda reach past the politics and interpretations of men and uncover something deeper, something magical, something alive.

Today at @middlechurch, she reminded me of my own strength. That even if I’m not a firm believer in the Bible, I am still doing holy work. I am holding onto that as Allan remains unjustly detained. I spent this morning crying, rewatching the happiest day of my life—the day I married my husband, Allan-Michael. The laughter. The vows. The way forever felt so close I could touch it.

Today is 134 days of being kept apart by a system that claims justice but delivers cruelty and lies.

Some days, the sadness is loud.
But louder than that… is us.
