The Friday Wrap by Avocado Golf Club
@studentsgolf and @payntrgolf dropped one of the best shoe collabs of the year. What I loved most was how the partnership brought together the best of both brands. Payntr delivered its signature quality, style and design, while Students injected its unique voice into every detail, from the packaging through to the content rollout. It felt authentic, considered and true to both brands.

That was just one of the dope collabs from the week. Another unexpected collab that was absolute fire was @adressco x @polerstuff, with the mock tee being the standout piece from the drop.

Finally, local legends @rivvia.projects and @arawgolf released a handful of new pieces that can't be slept on.

Ideas pile up in my phone, they pile up in sketch books, they pile up on napkins, loose sheets of paper, files on my ipad, art boards on illustrator and then it just sits and waits for the perfect time to see light.

I take photos on my camera, I edit them, toggle between grades which is my favorite part and then I sit on them because I’m not a “photographer”. I sketch ideas on paper, edit the idea until it’s ready to paint. I prime the canvas, mix colours of paint, I clean my brushes, whisk them over and over again on the canvas, patiently and carefully until my wrist gets tired. And then to no surprise, the canvas sits unfinished.

What a disservice to myself, what a waste of my own time. I used to blame the fear of rejection, but it’s beyond that now. It’s just laziness!

The best thing I did at the end of last year was stop taking on freelance work. The extra money would have been great but the feeling to create work for others was painful when I knew that I wasn’t even able to make work for myself. The thought of freelancing just makes me feel pure anxiety, like an addict that keeps falling for the trap of “one last hit”, the money isn’t enough for me anymore. The validation of “good job” isn’t enough anymore.

I’ve fought tooth and nail for the title of ARTIST, but only the work will define that for me.
