Dinner & a Stone – Inaugural Meetup 🍽️🪦
Good food, great company, and a dash of local history! We’re exploring Shelby County one cemetery at a time. Our first stop: Trackwell Cemetery — home to the grave of a Revolutionary War veteran and a woman who was captured by Shawnee Indians as a child and later rescued by Daniel Boone. 🪦✨
Follow along to see where we end up next!

Not your average floor lamp.

Brass with an octagonal base (a wink to mid-century formality),
topped with a soft pink shade and the boldest red pom-pom fringe you ever did see.

It’s giving:
📍 Hollywood Regency meets grandma’s den
📍 Serious curves, unserious energy
📍 The lamp equivalent of a flirty side-eye

Because sometimes what a room needs isn’t more symmetry—
it’s personality.

Lobster telephone? Perfect prop for your next Dali-inspired still life?

In the 1930s, Salvador Dalí placed a lobster on a telephone—and called it art. He wasn’t being random; for Dali, the lobster was a symbol of the subconscious, of desire, absurdity, and the thin membrane between the sensual and the surreal. He saw everyday objects as portals—and transformed them into invitations to dream differently.

In your home? It’s a nod to that same spirit. It’s more than just quirky—it’s a reminder that the objects we surround ourselves with carry energy, humor, and possibility. Dalí gave us permission to be outrageous, symbolic, and alive in our spaces.

So here’s to lobster phones, unexpected still lifes, and homes that invite the surreal. 🖤

It's a long time overdue, but in May, 2024, I graduated with my Master’s of Architecture from IU!

I am grateful for all the amazing friends and mentors I found, all the knowledge and skills I gained and the wonderful 3 years that it has been!👩‍🎓🎓

The last 192 hrs has been very rewarding thinking about Mexico in two pages of 9’ x 5’ on one canvas. This painting captures the essence of Mexican history, showcasing diversity through vibrant colors and intricate details. It evokes a sense of adventure with its dynamic composition and rich cultural symbolism. The beauty of the artwork lies in its ability to imply family connections and the strong bonds that tie generations together. The passion behind the brushstrokes is evident, breathing life into the canvas and inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a world of tradition and emotion. I look forward to engaging you all and answering questions about this series I have titled ‘BEAUTY OF CULTURAL BLENDS’ Exhibition details coming soon ☺️ #artoftheday

A few moments of late. Where’s John Singer Sargent when you need him to paint that first photo?

MATERIAL PROPOSITIONS:
Oaxaca + Mexico City

A showcase of work completed by J. Irwin Miller Architecture program students participating in the program’s Nomadic Studio in Oaxaca and Mexico City this winter led by Professor Silvia Acosta.

Onsite learning projects included producing encaustic tiles and handmade adobe blocks, and earth plastering a house and stove for a local family. These hands-on engagements formed the basis for designing an architectural project for a bilingual school, where elementary school children were taught in their native Zapotec and Mixtec languages.

The Nomadic Studio in Oaxaca explored how construction-based learning can inform the relationship between the academic institution and practical training, and contribute to new methods of engaging architectural work. The exhibition will highlight individual self-reflection as much as collaborative efforts leading toward community based work.

Thursday, April 11th
6:30 - 8:00 pm
