Now that I am finally settled in from the birthday trip in Charlotte and school craziness, I wanted take time to post a shout out for this amazing cake that was made for me!! As part of a birthday tradition, I set Matt off on a mission to find local cake makers and order a custom cake based on a theme. This year’s theme was ✨Practical Magic✨ and my LORD the cake maker knocked it out of the park! It was absolutely gorgeous, delicious, and whimsical. There is so much attention to detail poured into this cake and the tarot cards (!!!!!!) on the side were so fricken cool 🥹Thank you so much @jesscustomcakes for pouring so much love into it. It was a work of art that I almost felt guilty having to cut it 😅 also thank you @mimiyukii_ @vincxntg_ @matthewbonna for all the work you guys did to keep it a surprise and to making last weekend so memorable. It’s because of you guys that I get to have a magical start to the last year of my 20s.

surround yourself with creatives.

surround yourself with people who are building the life they’re always talking about.

because when you constantly see people around you creating something from nothing your entire perspective shifts, eventually you start thinking..
wait. Why can’t I do that too?

The Mondays we use to dread the most are now one of our favorite days of the week 🫂🩷

🎂 NOT MY BDAY - 1 Year ago today I fully committed to AnnaEats as a soul project 💗

This time last year, I was a few days into a breakup that really messed me up when I knew something had to change. I had always felt like my hobbies and passions were extra, frivolous activities that only got attention when the “important stuff” was done.

Even when I was unsure, I couldn’t help but wonder, “what would happen if I got out of my own way?”

Here are a few tips I would give myself a year ago before committing to content:

1. Release the metrics and focus on community!

-Everyone and their mama has a get famous quick technique. Don’t put all pressure on numbers like views, followers, shares, comments, etc. The best way to grow is to form genuine community with people who share your interests. Comment, ask questions, be open.

2. Feel the cringe and do it anyways.

-Sometimes the awareness of perception of oneself can be excruciating. Shame and guilt are not reliable motivators. Acknowledge your own feelings and discomfort, and post/act anyways. You’d be surprised what you find when you post from your heart and let people meet you there.

3. Shorten the window between idea and action.

-If you can make the time between having the idea and executing the idea as quick and painless as possible, you don’t have time to doubt or hesitate. Trust yourself, your ideas and topics you are interested in, and act!

4. Pitch yourself and don’t be stingy with free content

-The only way to get better at editing is to practice. In my experience, working with small mom-and-pop businesses can be more fulfilling and rewarding than pitching to big brands. But honey- you should be pitching to everyone you want. Shoot your shot & see who takes a chance on you.

5. Don’t psych yourself out.

-Backsliding is normal, rethinking your content is normal, taking breaks is normal. You do NOT need to post 5 times a day, you don’t need to buy followers - get out of your own way. Stay humble, genuine, and focused, and your people will find you.

My last 20 something birthday and it was filled with so much love from everyone! An amazing meal from my favorite person, tons of coffee dates, carrot cake galore, and topped it off with some puppy snuggles.

We are forever bonded to the folks who came out to our very first Nostalgia Night at @nodabrewing. We crafted together. We caked together. We survived the abrupt monsoon that swept through the pavilion with like 7 seconds’ warning right at the end of the event together. 😂

Congrats to Diamond who won our cake giveaway from @jesscustomcakes and immediately began slicing it to share with everyone. 🥹 Enormous thanks to Callie at NoDa who sprinted through insane rain from the taproom to lower the walls of the pavilion so that I could clean up without getting soaked down to my bones. 😂

1) We’re back at NoDa on May 16 for Nostalgia Night: MerMay to make mermaid fascinators and sand art, AND play a round or two of Grab The Mer-Mic. 🧜🏽‍♀️🎤🧜🏿‍♂️
