My Boo and me — back at work together again. 💙🤍🖤
sending @jesseengland, my late husband, home to Kansas in his glass form with @artfulashes
It’s okay to smile, even when you feel sad.
Hope I’m still making you proud, Love. I’ll always keep making with these hands, and growing with this heart.

As I finish the final welds to Jesse’s memorial bench, I find myself reminiscing about how our shared love for metal (and glass) brought us together. Welding is something I don’t do often enough, but I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s not perfect, a bit wabi-sabi as Jesse would say, but it’s definitely not coming apart. I think he would be proud. Ready for paint, then it’ll be bolted to the wood slab.
And now I have to blow glass.
Glad I could sneak this in this morning while I wait for glass to melt.

Seven years ago today, @jesseengland and I fired up our homemade hotshop for the very first time. I have named it our “fire breathing love child.” This gloryhole/glassmelt unit was inspired by our friend @mykeystuff after blowing glass in his backyard. We built this micro shop using mostly reclaimed/donated materials. The barrel is made from a used air compressor, and once we got our hands on that thing it determined the size of the hole and everything was rolling from there. We didn’t know what we were doing, we just followed the instructions in “Glass Notes” and did a little bit of our own tweaking. It has a side port with a mullite crucible which holds approx 15-20 lbs of glass so you can gather hot glass out of the back of the hole. We literally built this studio from the ground up. We didn’t have a fab table so we made one from the floor, then built the gloryhole on the fab table. Took us 6 months to build this thing while both of us worked full time glass production. Every evening and every weekend went into this project and it was brutal! But I am so grateful we did it. I use this studio all of the time. Thanks for your hard work Jesse! And for literally helping me build my dream. Swipe all the way left to see the first test fire!

As I pack up my work for its adventure across country, I’ve been really thankful of these two special people in my life. I’ve had a lot of love, help, and support from numerous people in the glass community (especially @lauradweir for getting me out to Seattle in the first place 😘) but Minhi and Jesse have helped me push so much farther as an artist, as an individual, and as a friend over the last few years. They have become my family. Thank you both for inviting me into your lives and always inspiring me with your strength and kindness. I truly believe that I wouldn’t be where I am with out you two in my life! ❤️ p.s. thanks for letting me make art messes in your basement when I go into my mad scientist art making rage 🥰
