I’m very happy to tell you I’ve relaunched our Substack as The Living Hand — a weekly erotic art column by yours truly. Free to subscribe for shop updates with the column reserved for paid subscribers. The first is on the unyielding intimacy of Peter Hujar, publishing appropriately enough today, on his birthday.

Sustaining members receive a complimentary subscription to The Living Hand and more. Link in the bio to subscribe.

People often ask which books I have to keep — Sandra M. Gilbert’s notes in Seduction & Betrayal are just too perfect to let go.

Today is the pub day for ‘Esther’s Army: The Christian Women Who Power the American Right’, @w.w.norton and I honestly couldn’t be more proud/delighted for/amazed by @drkatiegaddini for (somehow) bringing this book to life. This book started before Katie and I met, and then took us around the US and back again for her research, from Church table tennis events in North Carolina to weeks holed up near Liberty University in Virginia, and beyond.

When she was then given six months to write the book, so it could be released before the midterms, it then involved navigating a sick toddler who was not allowed in school for 2 months, to escaping to Guatemala to write it there, only for a fire to hit the village and change all our plans there. Her dedication and care for this utterly essential topic never wavered even when she was writing the book on trains across the UK on the way to birthdays and weddings.

I’m obviously completely unbiased, but the book itself is brilliant, narrative non-fiction at its very best. Instead of another hit-piece in this increasingly polarized world we live in, it attempts to understand the women who play such a crucial role in Trump’s America, and shows how, through history, they have played such an integral, understated role in the rise of Conservative politics, all the way to MAGA today. The Democrat party could basically do very well in reading it if it stands any chance of trying to reverse the mess the US is in (or they could just let the @demsocialists take over the fight)

I hope you all order it, and to see you at one of the upcoming events in the Bay (see below)
