🧠 MENTAL HEALTH MONDAYS 🤍

This week, we’re swiping to hear from PacWest student-athletes as they share what mental health means to them. 🫶

From the court to everyday life, mental health plays an important role in how we show up, grow, and support ourselves and others. Thank you to Kendall Oda (Hawai'i Hilo Women’s Basketball) and Levi Markus (Jessup Men’s Volleyball) for sharing their perspectives!

Remember, mental health matters both on and off the court. Take care of yourself, support your teammates, and never be afraid to speak up. 🤍

Check in. Speak up. Be a voice. 🧠

My heart is so happy ♥️

My dad has a standing record as the head coach of the most dominant high school boys volleyball program in the country (@vhsboysvb). We grew up going to the gym with him and the boys. Then when my sisters and I got to high school, he stepped down as the boys head coach and assisted the girls team. We all got to play high school ball with our dad on the bench.

Then my brother @jknud15 got to high school! And the timing looked like it was perfect because my dad was invited to step back in as the head coach of the boys team for his senior year.

Except, that year was 2020.

Just as the season was about to start, everything got shut down, cancelled, blown up, etc.

That stupid year.

I cried for them. This was supposed to be such a special thing for my dad and my brother, such a wholesome, fun, experience, even like a rite of passage in our family. But it just ended before it began. I was heartbroken and honestly angry. How could this be taken away from them?

But life went on. Jake graduated and went on to spend 2 years in Wisconsin, learning Spanish, eating tamales. When he returned, after some training and some big decisions, he joined the Moorpark men’s volleyball program. So his volleyball journey wasn’t over🙏

Far from it! In Jake’s second year at the junior college my dad was invited to join the coaching staff as an assistant for their program. I cried again ♥️ Jake would get Coach Dad on the bench after all. “God is so good” I thought. “He knew it was going to work out, the high school thing wasn’t the end, His plan worked out to be better than we could have imagined”.

And that was just the beginning.

Now, for Jake’s second season at Jessup, after a series of unfortunate events for the previous coaching staff, @markrknudsen is stepping into the role of head coach. The boys get a bonus run together on the biggest and best stage, and I’m crying again 🥹 God isn’t just good, He is the best.

If you’re still here, go give @jessupu_mvb a follow and cheer them on with me this year 💙🏐 #gowarriors

I’d like to officially announce my commitment to play collegiate men’s volleyball for @jessupu_mvb! I can’t thank my Mom and Dad enough for starting my volleyball journey and supporting me and cheering me on at every tournament and game. Big thanks to all the coaches at @alohavolleyballassociation and @spikeandserve for developing me as a player and as a person, I wouldn’t be where I am without all of them. I also want to thank @torqvb, @jamesanastassiades, @volleyhawaii, and @kprecruiter for all the amazing opportunities and training they have given me. Lastly, I want to thank all my teammates that I have been blessed to play with, especially the Maui boys, @lukeprangnell @piikoa.kamoku.vball @levini_pepini_pt2 @joeebrooo @andrewysvb, they are like brothers to me and can’t wait to compete collegiately against them this upcoming year.
I am so grateful for God and everyone He has put in my life and I can’t wait for this new chapter in my life, this is a dream come true to be able to compete at the highest level of college volleyball!
