Playing at the @pitchmeeting in Nashville was not on my bingo card for this trip. It was also, consequently, one of the highlights. If you haven’t heard of The Pitch Meeting before, allow me to elucidate. At this event, a few lucky artists/singers/songwriters get called up to perform an original song with the WORLD-CLASS pitch meeting band (led by fellow Aussie, Eric Fortaleza). The catch is this - the band has never heard your song before. They just… play it. And it’s as insane as it sounds. I was terrified that they’d call my name, and even more terrified that they wouldn’t. That being said, I was BEYOND MORTIFIED when I got called up FIRST. Massive thanks to @jared_haschek who organised (and I quote) the ‘best charts they’d EVER seen’. Game changer. They listened to about 15 secs of my song, ‘He’s Just Not Into You’, and then they were off. And then I had the time of my life. It was such a privilege to join and have a sing. The band is UTTERLY INCREDIBLE (and they make all the magic happen) So shoutout to: @soohungry 🎸 @liamplaysdrums 🥁 (My Aussie bros ⬆️) @martyschwartz (yes, that’s right. I got to meet THE Marty Schwartz 🎸!!!) @jesusx2a 🪘 @foolishfrankie 🎷 @br.yc.e 🎹 @mysticriff 🎸 Soooo anywaayyysss if you like the song, you should go check out my version, He’s Just Not Into You, on all your favourite listening platforms. “It’s like I’m always spinnin’ round Can’t get two feet back on the ground I just need someone to lend a hand But it might be too late to ask Because the floors, they’re made of glass ⏳ And we’re going backwards into sinking sand…” 🖤 — me, casually writing a funk song about COVID in 2020 🤷🏼‍♀️ When I wrote this verse, the metaphor in my head was society going backwards. Sand → heat → glass. (Where my Sweet Home Alabama girls at? 🔥) Glass → somehow back to sand. Basically: everything felt wonky, backwards and like we were collectively UN-evolving. 😂 ANYWAY. Tonight Cav casually says: “I always thought you were talking about trying to walk inside an hourglass.” ……… WAIT. ⏳ Spinning around. Can’t get your feet on the ground. Glass all around you. Sinking sand underneath you. And now I’m questioning whether my husband understood my own lyric better than I did. 😂 So I need a ruling: which team are you on? ⏳ TEAM HOURGLASS 🔥 TEAM SAND → GLASS → SAND
