Last night, I was honored by @uabblackalumni as a “26 for 26” Trailblazer at the 3rd Annual Sneaker Soirée! 🥹🥳 Grateful is an understatement. I never imagined being recognized like this, especially when I almost didn’t graduate.😭

My college journey began at Stillman College, continued at The University of Alabama, and finally brought me to THE University of Alabama at Birmingham!💚💛A decade-long journey that brought me back to a place that was part of my story long before I became a student.

I remember what the Hill Student Center looked like in the ’90s because I was often there with my mama while she completed her bachelor’s degree. I watched her put her best foot forward, and she showed me what was possible. Years later, I found myself following in her footsteps.

My final years at UAB were hard. I was working full time, and becoming pregnant with my second baby caught me off guard, but I kept pushing. Nine months pregnant, I walked two blocks from my designated parking to a 6 p.m. class, three days a week, after a full day of work. I NEEDED to be in the room. Online alone wasn’t enough for me.

That determination was something I had already seen in my mama. Now, I’m not only a UAB alum, I’m a UAB legacy, continuing to carry the torch. 💚💛 Look at how far we’ve come! From overlooked and underestimated to making real impact. To my husband and my parents, thank you for the love, support, and SACRIFICE that helped me get here.

Cheers to every recipient honored last night! And to my Blazer family, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Let’s continue to DO THE WORK!💪🏽

My firstborn. My oldest. My one and only son. 10 years old. 🥹💙

And y’all… I finally caved and got him a cellphone this summer that's another story. 😩😂 But watching him step into this new season, own his responsibilities, and grow into such a wonderful young man has made me so proud.

Jo, continue to let God guide you in everything you do. Mommy may not be perfect, but one thing I’m incredibly grateful for is what I’ve instilled in my children. They know who they are and WHOSE they are. 🙏🏽

They know they can come to us with anything, but more importantly, they know they can go to God for themselves. And sometimes, it’s my own child who reels me back in with the simplest statement, reminding me that he’s been listening all along. 🥹

There’s something so special about growing alongside your firstborn. You were the first to make me Mommy, and while I’ve spent these last 10 years teaching and guiding you, you’ve taught me more than you’ll probably ever realize.

Our bond is unbreakable. My first baby. My only son. My Jo. 💙

Keep becoming the young man God created you to be. Mommy will always be right here, loving you, praying for you, guiding you, and cheering you on.

Happy Fathers Day to my Mr. Make It Happen🖤 Your love, leadership, and sacrifice has carried us to a new season full of blessings and I can't begin to express how much I appreciate you for being my provider, my best friend, and a true helpmate. You make my life easier while pushing me to reach for my dreams and stay on top of everything. I couldn't do this life without you! ✨Holidays are pure magic when they’re filled with love, family, and unforgettable experiences! This year my babies got the gifts + the magic of Walt Disney World, and seeing their joy was the greatest blessing. 🥹🎄🎁
