Will AI replace testers? Michael Jackson Ndueso doesn’t think so, and his reasoning is worth hearing.

He believes testers will always be needed because they’re human, but the role itself will evolve. AI will keep automating the repetitive work, freeing testers to focus on higher-value activities: understanding business requirements, evaluating risk, and thinking through accessibility, security, and ethics.

Software keeps getting more complex. Someone still has to make the human call on overall product quality, and that’s not something AI can own.

Don’t fear AI taking your job. Focus on the parts of testing only a human can do well.

You don’t need to be an expert programmer to start automating tests.

That’s the barrier Michael Jackson Ndueso says keeps so many manual testers from ever trying Cypress. When he first discovered it, what caught his attention wasn’t complexity; it was how approachable it was: solid docs, a gentle on-ramp, and a first script (cy.visit()) that works.

He’s looked back at scripts he wrote two years ago and barely recognized them. Growth in automation isn’t about knowing everything on day one, it’s about starting somewhere and letting continuous use teach you the rest.

If you’ve been putting off learning test automation because you don’t feel “technical enough,” this is your sign to just open the docs and start.

You can’t build empathy for users you’ve never sat with.

Michael Jackson Ndueso (QA engineer, automation lead, and one of the most active voices in the testing community on LinkedIn) spent years in technical support before moving into QA, and it changed how he sees bugs entirely.

Working support means feeling a user’s frustration in real time when something that should work doesn’t. That experience taught him a simple truth: preventing an issue before it escalates creates far more value than fixing it after a customer already hit it.

Next time you’re testing, ask yourself: am I just catching bugs, or am I preventing them from ever reaching someone who’s counting on this working?
