Equality is not simply an ideal we celebrate in rooms like this. It is a promise we are still responsible for keeping.

Attending the 2026 HRC National Dinner was an extraordinary honor, surrounded by so many accomplished, courageous and inspiring LGBTQ+ people and allies whose lives and leadership continue to move culture forward.

There is something powerful about sharing space with people who have refused to make themselves smaller in order to make the world more comfortable. People who have built, led, created, advocated and loved boldly, often while carrying the weight of battles they should never have had to fight.

Last night was a celebration, but it was also a reminder that progress does not absolve us of the work still ahead.

I believe deeply that dignity should never be conditional, equality should never be selective, and love should never require permission.

The rooms may become more beautiful. The tables may become more distinguished. The representation may become greater, but our responsibility remains the same: to keep widening the door until equality is not an invitation extended to a few, but a truth experienced by everyone.

What an honor to be in the room. What a responsibility to leave it committed to doing more.
