I think Anne & Andy need to eat
. They stay away from very sweet
But at parties, celebrations, birthdays too
. Cake and ice cream are there, it's true
.
They brush their teeth when they eat
. Just like putting socks on feet
They know their teeth need extra care
. Too make sure they will always be there
.
They'll visit the dentist twice a year
. Without worry, crying, crazy fear
Because they learned the rules for good tooth care
. To make sure their teeth will stay there
.
Their friend Gedalia, who eats leaves
. Told them the dentist is fun, so please
Go to your dentist, keep your mouth clean
. Become a clean, mean, leaf eating machine.
So Ann and Andy go in a week
. They'll post pictures. And will speak!

Mr Potato head I cannot eat
. Since he's uncooked and not too sweet
But cooking him, and adding butter and spice,
. Take an insulin pre-bolus and then all is nice
.
I just have to adjust what I take to what I eat
. Whether it's simple , or tangy, or sour, or sweet
I can't overdue it, but I can enjoy,
. And eat like my friends, like every girl and boy.
.
#bloodsugarbalance is the name of the game
. Insulin allows me to eat food without shame
#t1d is hidden, it doesn't show on my face
. But #t1dlookslikeme - and I must watch my pace

Though one CAN learn from playing medically designed games - living with type 1 diabetes is NOT a game!!
Have to make public admission before writing post. Those of you who know me (or a little of my history) sorry for being repetitious but may be helpful to someone: 59+ years of t1 (since age two), 39+ pumping and almost 24 using a CGM (direct work on parts of the diabetes tech world including pumps, cgm, protocol and education) probably influences my outlook, but it works for me and has led me to methods that work well (at least sometimes).
I've been "doing diabetes" so long it's become automated activity - even when things go haywire. As hard as it is to accept there are far too many things that can make our blood sugar NOT follow the pattern we accept.
The loud noise outside, the crying child, dropping something that breaks, getting good, bad, unexpected news, becoming ill, seasonal changes, changes in daily patterns ALL have an effect, large or small, that we usually don't think about until they have already happened, and even then, as it's hours later, we don't always associate glucose control with issue.
Everyone should strive to keep up their good work, eliminate or reduce those things that are harming you from furthering your self-knowledge and care, your goals and your aim to do well - but dropping feelings of guilt or hopelessness will only drive the blood sugar further from where you want it. Utilize the tools you have to do as well as you are able, reach out and ask for help or ideas or support when needed or wanted and enjoy life.
Please copy/resend to spread awareness and knowledge

The sensor did ring
I was too high that day
So I took another correction bolus
And checked the site for bad play

I sat thinking corrections
I've done this enough
If all of it would work
Life wouldn't be so tough

I raised up my basal
And another correction too
And realized in three hours
Readings were stuck like glue

To high to go out,
To high to not correct
Yet after five correction bolus
The reading was still wrecked

All I could do
. Was to Sit
. Sit
. Sit
. Sit
. Sit
And I decided to take an injection
Not liking it one bit

A few hours later,
. after waking from sleep
My mouth filled with acetone
. and head hurting deep

My sugar was normal
. Not high and not low
I though to myself
. This is NO WAY TO GO!!

So Now on beyond site changes
. And correction boluses too
I'm looking at insulin delivery
. From the pump and infusion set too

If you find this poem familiar
. Like you've done this all too
Please get in touch with the Giraffe in the Hat
. He'd like to document you

Something's going wrong
. In this pump/person paradigm
And only with enough numbers
. Will we find reason or rhyme

So write and/or message
. But please let us know
As enough of this garbage
. It really must go!
